Interesting facts Genya's family name is made up of the kanji for "immortality" (不死, shinazu?) and "river" (川, gawa?), while the kanji in his given name mean "mysterious" (玄, gen?) and "moreover" (弥, ya?). Genya is one of the few characters who doesn't use a blade as his primary weapon, and he's also the only fighter who can't use breath attacks. Instead, he uses repeated actions, which replace the full concentration required to breathe. It's important to note that Genya learned this technique from Gyomei, who, unlike Genya, also uses breath attacks. This suggests that both techniques can be used in conjunction with each other. Kokushibo mentions that Genya is not the first Slayer he has encountered who ate demons to strengthen himself. Genya is extremely shy around girls, even those much younger than him. He used to beat them. Because of his demon-eating ability, Genya regularly goes to the Butterfly Manor for health checkups. Genya ranked 15th in the second character popularity poll, with 2,589 votes. Genya's hair curls everywhere except the top of his head. It looks odd, so he shaves most of it off, leaving only the top. Genya used to beat women, but stopped doing so when he reached puberty.

Demonic Transformation: Genya can temporarily gain demonic powers by consuming the flesh of a demon. The regeneration and physical strength he gains from this process are dependent on the demon's strength.[9] In this form, he was even able to slightly overpower Aizetsu. Upper Rank Four Strength: After consuming the wood created by Zōhakuten, Genya gained enough strength and speed to throw three trees in a row.[10] The full extent of this enhancement was demonstrated during his fight with Kokushibo, where Genya did not die even after being cut across, and therefore, like demons, could only be killed by decapitation.[11] Master Marksman: Genya is proficient with a double-barreled shotgun, which he used in his battles against the First and Fourth Upper Ranks.

Master Swordsman: Before the invention of the gun, Genya's primary weapon was a short nichirin blade, which he also used skillfully in combating demons. Demon Blood Technique Having consumed the flesh of at least two Upper Moons (Kokushinbo and Hantengu), Genya was able to develop his own Blood Demon Technique in battle with Upper Moon One. Like Nezuko, Genya's techniques are designed to harm other demons. Nichirin Shotgun: Genya wields a short, double-barreled shotgun (resembling a classic sawed-off shotgun), which he skillfully uses for both close-quarters and long-range combat. The bullets he uses are made from the same materials used to create Nichirin blades, allowing Genya to kill demons even without a sword.

Shizu Shinazugawa Genya admired how, even as a fragile and petite woman, she protected her children from her husband's tyranny. He, like all the other members of his family, loved his mother and treasured her very much.

Genya meets Inosuke through his interactions with Tanjiro. Their fiery temperaments clash, and at the first opportunity, Inosuke calls Genya a loser. Genya gets angry and attacks Inosuke, leading to a small fight, which is sure to be not the last. Nevertheless, they later become good friends.

He was noticed by Gyomei Himejima, the Stone Hashira, and began training him. At some point, he met Sanemi and attempted to apologize, but Sanemi rejected him, saying he had no brother. After this, Genya decided to become a Hashira so that Sanemi could acknowledge him. Genya participates in the final selection and successfully passes.[3] After receiving his crow, he immediately pushes it away and grabs Kanata Ubuyashiki, demanding his nichirin blade. Genya's arm is intercepted and broken by Tanjiro Kamado, after which the quarrel ends, and Kiriya Ubuyashiki invites them to select ore for the blades.[4] At the Butterfly Manor, Genya crosses paths with Tanjiro, deliberately bumping into him and ignoring his greeting.[5] Later, he and Gyomei Himejima receive news of Kyojuro Rengoku's death, conveyed to them by a crow.[6] Sanemi is Genya's older brother. As children, when their father was killed, they swore to protect their mother and their other siblings. However, after an incident involving their mother becoming a demon and subsequently being killed by Sanemi, they had a bitter falling out. Genya called Sanemi a monster, which hurt Sanemi so much that he decided to separate from his brother.

Later, Genya realized his mistake and tried to make peace, but Sanemi did not want to listen to him.

Despite this, Sanemi worried about Genya the whole time. He wanted him to live a normal life, have a wife and children, and make them happy. At first, Genya treated Tanjiro with hostility, unwilling to talk to him or establish any kind of friendship. However, Tanjiro persisted, and during the battle against Hantengu, they eventually found common ground. Kamado even tried to reconcile Genya with Sanemi, but despite his failure, Genya became understanding of Tanjiro and gradually became part of his circle of friends.

Genya feels great guilt towards Sanemi for the events that occurred during their childhood. Despite his brother's harsh reproaches, he harbored no ill will toward him, a belief reinforced by Tanjiro and, ultimately, Sanemi himself. Genya never allows others to insult or humiliate his older brother.

Sanemi's refusal to acknowledge Genya made him insecure, realizing how weak he was compared to his comrades. Nevertheless, he did everything he could to help his allies, even if it meant suffering grievous injuries. Genya grew up in a large family. His mother worked long hours, while his father was lazy, drank heavily, and periodically beat his wife and children. Later, his father was killed, and Genya and Sanemi swore to protect their mother and siblings. One day, their mother stayed away for a long time. When there was a knock on the door, they thought she had finally returned. It was indeed their mother, but she was already insane, having transformed into a demon. Sanemi and Genya's siblings died at the same time. Sanemi managed to kill the demon, but after recognizing her as his mother, Genya blamed Sanemi for her murder and began to believe that it was a wolf, not she, who had attacked their family.

Later, Genya realized his mistake and tried to mend his relationship with his brother. He trained to become a demon hunter, but he was never able to master the Breathing Styles. One day, he discovered he could eat demons and acquire some of their demonic abilities.

Genya Shinazugawa (不死しなず川がわ 玄げん弥や, Shinazugawa Gen'ya?) is a Demon Slayer and the younger brother of the Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa.[2] Genya is a tall man with a long, black mohawk that is parted in different directions and shaved sides. He has narrow eyes with purple irises like his brother. A distinctive feature of his appearance is a scar on the right side of his face, from his ear to the bridge of his nose.

He most often wears the standard demon hunter uniform, over which he wears a dark, muted purple vest. Genya was a man with a bad temper, a sort of "lone wolf" who refused to accept help from others. He was quite rude to others, not standing on ceremony with anyone and allowing violence against women.

Later, his personality undergoes noticeable improvements. He becomes softer and friendlier, though he retains his former temper. From time to time, when around girls, he displays shyness and timidity.
