Rise of the Guardians (2012) is an animated film produced by DreamWorks based on William Joyce's book series, The Guardians of Childhood. The story follows a group of mythical characters who protect the childhood and imagination of children around the world. Here's a look at the main characters and settings.
1. Jack Frost
A mischievous and rebellious winter spirit who doesn't remember his past life. He controls ice and snow, flying with the help of his staff. He becomes a Guardian when the Man in the Moon chooses him to stop Pitch Black. Before becoming a spirit, he was a normal human named Jackson Overland Frost, who lived in Burgess over 300 years ago. He died saving his little sister from falling into a frozen lake, and the Man in the Moon revived him as an immortal being with ice powers. He has the power to manipulate cold, create blizzards, and glide on the wind with his staff. At the beginning of the film, he feels lonely because the children don't believe in him, which means they can't see him. Throughout history, he joins the Guardians and discovers their purpose: to bring joy to children through fun and snow. His relationship with Jamie is key, because Jamie is the first child to believe in him.
2. Nicolás San Norte (Santa Claus)
A tough Santa with a Russian accent, sporting "Naughty" and "Nice" tattoos on his arms. He wields two swords and leads the Guardians. His fortress is a workshop at the North Pole, where his yetis build toys and the elves create more chaos than help. Unlike the traditional image of Santa, here he is a strong, brave man with a warrior's touch. He has a jovial character and always looks for the positive in everything. He uses two swords in combat and commands an army of Yetis and Elves in his workshop. His motto is "Wonder," as he inspires awe in children. His symbol is snow globes, which he uses to show different places in the world.
3. E. Aster Bunnymund (Easter Bunny)
A tall, agile anthropomorphic rabbit with an Australian accent. He controls underground tunnels and uses boomerangs as weapons. He guards Easter eggs and represents hope. He is a rival of Jack Frost, but they later become friends. He is over 2 meters tall and moves incredibly fast thanks to his connection with nature. He can travel through underground tunnels and create magical portals in the ground. He wears a belt with boomerangs and explosive eggs that he uses in battle. Although he seems serious, he is actually protective and has a tender side, especially with children and with Sophie. His holiday, Easter, represents hope and renewal.
4. Tooth Fairy
A fairy with the appearance of a hummingbird and leader of an army of mini-fairies. She collects children's teeth, which hold their childhood memories. Her palace is where she stores the teeth and memories. She moves like a hummingbird and has an army of mini-fairies that help her collect teeth. Each tooth contains the childhood memories of the child to whom it belongs. During the film, Pitch attacks her palace and steals all the teeth, causing the children to begin to forget their happy memories. She has a special fondness for Jack Frost and his memories, as his tooth held the truth about his past.
5. Sandman (Dream / Sandy)
The Guardian of Dreams, small and golden, with a warm glow. He doesn't speak, but communicates with images of golden sand. He controls children's dreams and uses his sand to fight nightmares. Although he doesn't speak, he communicates with images of golden sand in the air. His golden sand creates peaceful dreams in children, but he also uses it as a weapon to form whips and objects. He is the wisest of the Guardians and also the most powerful. Pitch attacks him and apparently "destroys" him, but in the end he returns stronger.
Villain 6. Pitch Black (The Boogeyman / Shadow)
The villain of the story represents fear and nightmares. He wants to make children stop believing in the Guardians and be consumed by fear. He controls shadows and dark horses called Nightmares. His true power is fear. By making children stop believing in the Guardians, he weakens them. He controls living shadows and nightmare horses. His greatest desire is to be remembered and feared, as he hates being ignored. His weakness is that, like Jack, he depends on children's belief to exist strongly. In the end, the children lose their fear of him and the Nightmares betray him, dragging him into the darkness.
7. The Man in the Moon (Manny)
He doesn't appear physically, but he's the one who chooses the Guardians. He guides the heroes and reveals Jack Frost's purpose to him. Although he never speaks or appears physically, his presence guides the Guardians. He's the one who chooses Jack Frost as a new Guardian. He has a special connection with light and hope.
8. Child protagonists
Jamie Bennett: The first child to continue believing in the Guardians and Jack Frost. Sophie Bennett: Jamie's little sister, delighted with the Easter Bunny. Other children in Jamie's group: Include Cupcake (a tough girl), Claude and Caleb (twins), and Monty (a boy with glasses).
-
