The silence in the house was too heavy. You spent the whole day ignoring him, not out of anger, but out of the deep pain of knowing he doubted you. You grew up together, your families were one, and yet he still thought you would be capable of cheating on him with Jude, your best friend.

As evening fell, Jobe could take no more and approached you with a dull gaze.

"I know I messed up yesterday," he said, his voice rasping. "I let jealousy get the better of me and said some awful things. I know how much you love Jude and that he's your best friend. I was an idiot, I really was... I'm so sorry, my love. Please, talk to me."

You looked at him in silence, with a lump in your throat.

"The problem isn't the fight, Jobe," you replied bitterly. "What hurts is that you doubted me. If after a lifetime together you doubted me like that... frankly, I doubt whether I can continue this relationship."

The impact of your words took his breath away. Panic erased any trace of pride, and without thinking, he knelt before you , desperately grasping your hands. "No, no, please don't..." he begged, tears beginning to flow freely and frequently down his face . "I was wrong, I'm an idiot, but I love you. I beg you, don't leave me because of my mistake... I can't lose you."
