Had he made his debut in either game, just weeks shy of his 16th birthday, he would have become the club's youngest-ever first-team player, breaking the record set by his brother in the first round two years earlier. Later that year, rumors linked Jude Bellingham with a return to England; counter-rumors linked Jude's club, Borussia Dortmund, with interest in signing Jobe. By the end of the year, he had four goals in nine appearances for Birmingham's under-18 side in their Premier League Under-18 section and had made four appearances for their under-23s in Premier League 2.

He was named on the bench for the EFL Championship match against Coventry City FC in November. Manager Lee Bowyer insisted that observers should not judge him by his brother's achievements, noting that he was "next in line" due to the number of injuries among the club's midfielders. Again, he remained unused. He made his professional debut as a second-half substitute in the 2021–22 FA Cup third-round match against Plymouth Argyle FC, replacing 17-year-old Jordan James after 70 minutes with the score at 0-0 and Birmingham reduced to ten men. At 16 years and 107 days old, he became Birmingham's second-youngest debutant. After the match, which Birmingham lost 1–0, Bowyer said he had earned his debut by improving his game during the preceding weeks training with the first team.

He made his first appearance in the English Football League a week later as a late substitute in a 1-1 draw against Preston North End FC. His next appearance was not until the final game of the season.

In July 2022, Birmingham confirmed that Bellingham would receive a scholarship with the club and had agreed terms on a first professional contract, which would come into effect when he turned 17.

Sunderland FC
On May 18, 2023, it was confirmed that rival club Sunderland AFC would sign Bellingham for a fee of £3 million after they and Liverpool FC began pursuing him. On August 6, he made his debut for his new club in a 2–1 league defeat to Ipswich Town, and two weeks later he scored his first goal, netting two in a 2–1 comeback victory against Rotherham United.

Jobe Bellingham was named Championship Young Player of the Year while playing for Sunderland. The midfielder was instrumental in the club's successful season, helping them secure a playoff spot for promotion to the Premier League. In the 2024-25 season, he made 43 appearances, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

Borussia Dortmund
On June 10, 2025, Borussia Dortmund confirmed the signing of Jobe Bellingham for a fixed fee of €33 million plus €5 million in add-ons. He signed a five-year contract with the Rhineland club, running until June 2030. On June 17, 2025, Bellingham made his debut for Borussia Dortmund in a FIFA Club World Cup 2025 match against Fluminense at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which ended in a 0-0 draw. He scored his first goal for Borussia in a Club World Cup victory, defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 4-3 in a hard-fought match on June 21 in Cincinnati, in the second round of Group F.
