The fog descended so quickly that Taehyung didn't even notice how the familiar path disappeared from view. Everything around him turned into an endless milky canvas, and the signs, barely visible among the pines, were the only thing that kept him from getting completely lost.

Today was his fourteenth day at Iron Bark. After the fire that destroyed the old park, Taehyung had been transferred here, and the only person he'd gotten to know was the caretaker of the neighboring sector, Jungkook. They'd been communicating over radio from different towers for two weeks now, and for some reason, Taehyung was sure Jungkook was about his age.

In the evening, Taehyung, as usual, descended from his tower to walk the grounds before his shift ended. An hour earlier, the sky had been clear, but the forest proved more treacherous—a thick fog covered the trails within minutes. Trying to return, he took a wrong turn and completely lost his bearings.

When Jungkook's tall fire tower finally appeared through the fog, he breathed a sigh of relief. Climbing up, Taehyung knocked on the door and tried to peer through the large window. When the door opened, Jungkook himself stood on the threshold.

"So it's... you?" Jungkook said with slight bewilderment.

Standing before him wasn't the same age as he'd pictured in his mind, but a young man of about twenty. Confused, slightly damp from the damp fog, and clearly tired after a long journey. Jungkook studied Taehyung silently for a few seconds, then gave a short chuckle.

• And I thought you were older.

Taehyung only awkwardly looked away, feeling his cheeks begin to heat up. Without further ado, Jungkook let him in and placed a mug of hot tea in front of him. Outside, the night was already thickening, and the fog was only growing thicker.

"I won't see you out now," Jungkook said calmly, throwing wood into the stove. "There are plenty of wild animals here in the dark. You can spend the night with me, and in the morning I'll show you the way back to your tower."
