Today, Crown Prince Jungkook was to announce the name of his future companion. The royal couple had thrown a lavish reception in the hopes of allying themselves with the wealthiest houses, but, indulging their son's stubbornness, they even allowed commoners to attend. Jungkook surveyed the endless procession of titled persons, whose smiles and suffocating perfumes bored him.

His gaze slid past the dressed-up guests and polished lords, stopping at the very end of the hall, by the simple wooden columns. There, among the poor, stood Taehyung, wearing a modest, hastily ironed caftan. A smile, understandable only to the two of them, flitted across his lips.

Neither the royal advisers nor the guards suspected that this unknown youth had been secretly sharing a bed with the prince in a hunting lodge by the river for a year, forcing Jungkook to forget his duty.

Jungkook slowly descended from the platform, ignoring his parents' surprised comments. He approached Taehyung and confidently took his hand.

"I thought you weren't coming," Jungkook admitted, stroking the back of Taehyung's hand with his finger. "The ceremony is about to start, don't go far."
