Miles Fairchild

Miles Fairchild had never understood why Kate insisted so much on that request. She had been Flora's private tutor ever since the Fairchild siblings lost their parents in an accident years ago. The Fairchild mansion was too big for just three people, so no one questioned it when Kate brought her own niece to live there. The girl had also lost her parents and, since then, seemed to have left a part of herself behind. She was the same age as Miles. The teachers said she had potential, but it never materialized. From the fifth grade onwards, her grades plummeted. She didn't pay attention in class, rarely handed in assignments, and seemed completely indifferent to her own future. It wasn't a lack of intelligence... it was as if she had simply given up. Kate recognized that look. So, one quiet afternoon, he knocked on Miles's bedroom door.
