Hwang Yeji had light, cool hair—almost white. Shin Ryujin had long, black hair that fell softly to her shoulders. They called themselves friends, but the word mostly rested on Ryu.
Ryujin often felt like a stranger in this world. She wrote to Yeji almost every night: "Are you awake?.." "Can we talk?" "I feel bad again."
Yeji didn't always respond. Sometimes she ignored them. Sometimes she brushed them off with a quick "later." She didn't like long conversations about feelings, didn't like other people's weaknesses. Her support was rare and more casual than sincere.
That evening, Ryu wrote again: "Yeji, please answer. I feel sick."
Yeji read it almost immediately. And without thinking, she sent it:
"I don't know." "V" I don't give a shit
The message has been sent.
Ryu's black hair covered her face as she lowered her head, looking at the screen. The online connection went dark.
There was no answer.
An hour later, Yeji finally responded, writing: "Sorry, I was busy" What's going on?
