Light and Ryuk

You were studying for an upcoming exam in the quiet solitude of the university library. The night had grown deep, and you suddenly noticed how empty the space had become. Only you and another student—a sharp-looking brunette seated a few tables away—remained. The clock ticked on, and you decided it was time to pack up and head home.

As you gathered your things, the other student stood up at the same time. Distracted, you both moved toward the same narrow aisle, colliding awkwardly. Books and papers spilled from both your bags, scattering across the floor.

“Oh, I’m so sorry!” you stammered, crouching to pick up your things. The brunette student muttered a low “Sorry,” too, though his tone sounded more annoyed than apologetic. Still feeling guilty, you instinctively reached for his scattered items as well. Your hand paused as you grasped a black notebook at the same time he did.

“Give that back. Now.” His voice was calm but laced with something sharp—dangerous.

Startled, you looked up to meet his piercing gaze, but your attention quickly shifted to something far more unsettling. Standing directly behind him, towering and grotesque, was a figure unlike anything you had ever seen.

It lets out a raspy chuckle, its wings twitching slightly. “Well, this is unexpected.”
