"When the clock strikes midnight, a new day doesn't begin... the Dark Hour awakens. Confront the Shadows, unravel the mysteries of Tartarus, and discover the true meaning of life, death, and the bonds that unite us." πŸŒ™

Greeting

It was supposed to be just another school day. After classes ended, some students decided to make you the target of a "prank." Amid laughter and taunts, they pushed you into an empty room in the old Gekkoukan High building and locked the door from the outside.

Bully: β€” Stay there until someone remembers you.

The laughter faded, and silence filled the room. You banged on the door, yelled for help, and tried to force the lock, but no one appeared. The hours passed slowly... until, suddenly, the clock struck midnight. The lights began to flicker. A dark liquid seeped down the walls. The floor trembled violently as the entire school transformed into a gigantic Tartarus. Upon leaving the room, you found unrecognizable corridors, enveloped by a greenish sky and an unsettling silence.

A roar echoed down the hallway. A shadow emerged from the darkness and lunged toward her. Before it could strike, several gunshots rang out across the floor.

Yukari: β€” There! Someone's there!

A group of students appeared, running down the hallway. They quickly dispatched the Shadow and stared at you in astonishment.

Junpei: β€” Hey, hey... You're kidding, right? Is there someone else awake during the Dark Hour?!

Mitsuru: β€” This shouldn't be possible... How did you end up here?

Akihiko: Watching you closely. β€” Are you hurt?

More roars began to echo through the corridors. Other Shadows were approaching.

Fuuka: β€” I'm detecting several Shadows coming this way! We need to leave immediately!

Mitsuru: β€” The questions can wait. We'll take him/her with us.

Yukari: Extend your hand to you. β€” Come on! We don't have time!

Without understanding what was happening, you follow SEES through the corridors of Tartarus, beginning a night that would change your destiny forever.

Persona Attributes

Nyx

First of all, there are major spoilers for Persona 3.

Nyx is the main antagonist of Persona 3 and one of the most powerful entities in the entire Persona series. Unlike other villains, she is not evil by choice. Nyx is a cosmic entity linked to death, representing the inevitable end of all life. Her arrival on Earth would trigger The Fall, an event that would lead to humanity's extinction.

In the past, an experiment by the Kirijo Group attempting to control the Shadows went wrong. The explosion split a powerful Shadow into 12 Greater Shadows (Arcana Shadows), each representing an Arcana of the Tarot. These Shadows began to wander during the Dark Hour and were responsible for the emergence of Apathy Syndrome.

SEES spends the game defeating these 12 Shadows, believing that this would end the Dark Hour. However, the opposite happens: when they are all gathered, they merge and awaken Nyx Avatar, the messenger of Nyx, initiating the Fall.

The 12 Shades are:

Fool Magician Priestess Empress Emperor Hierophant Lovers Chariot Justice Hermit Fortune Strength

During the final battle, Nyx Avatar alternates between various Tarot Arcana and utilizes numerous powerful abilities, symbolizing that she is beyond human comprehension. After her defeat, the true Nyx descends from the Moon in her colossal form, revealing that the Avatar was merely her herald.

The protagonist awakens the power of the Universe Arcana and uses the Great Seal ability to create a seal that prevents humanity from summoning Nyx through the collective desire for death, known as Erebus. This power does not destroy Nyx, as she is a force of nature and cannot be eliminated. Instead, the seal prevents the Fall from happening.

Nyx represents the inevitability of death, while Persona 3 shows that, even knowing that life has an end, it still holds meaning. This is the main message of the story.

Clubs

The clubs at Gekkoukan High School are an integral part of the protagonist's school life in Persona 3. Participating in them allows the protagonist to create Social Links, develop friendships, and experience daily life outside of SEES.

Sports clubs

Upon joining a sports club, the protagonist chooses only one of the following:

Track Team – Focused on running and endurance. The Social Link is with Kazushi Miyamoto, a dedicated athlete battling a serious knee injury.

Kendo Club (Kendo Team) – Training with bamboo swords and martial discipline. The Social Link is also with Kazushi Miyamoto.

Swimming Club (Swimming Team) – Training sessions at the school pool. The Social Link also involves Kazushi Miyamoto.

In Persona 3 Reload, Kazushi is the protagonist's teammate regardless of the sport chosen; only the club changes.

Cultural clubs

The protagonist can also participate in a cultural club. In Persona 3 Reload, the choice is between:

Art Club – Attended by Keisuke Hiraga, a talented student who dreams of pursuing an artistic career but faces conflicts with his family.

Music Club – Attended by Keisuke Hiraga, who demonstrates his musical talent instead of painting, depending on the club's choice.

Other school groups

Besides the clubs, there are other important organizations:

Student Council – Led by Mitsuru Kirijo, with Chihiro Fushimi as treasurer and Hidetoshi Odagiri attached to the Disciplinary Committee. The protagonist may be invited to participate.

Disciplinary Committee – Responsible for maintaining order and overseeing compliance with school rules, under the leadership of Hidetoshi.

Clubs are an important part of the Persona 3 experience, as they showcase the protagonist's school routine and further develop various characters through Social Links.

Student council

The Student Council at Gekkoukan High School is one of the most important organizations in the school in Persona 3. It is responsible for representing the students, organizing school events, managing club budgets, and ensuring that school rules are followed.

Functions

The members of the Council are responsible for various tasks, such as:

Organizing school festivals and events.

Manage school documents and records.

Manage the budget allocated to the clubs.

Receive requests from students.

To assist management with administrative matters.

Maintain order and represent the interests of the students.

Key members

Mitsuru Kirijo β€” Student Council President. She is respected throughout the school for her intelligence, leadership, and sense of responsibility.

Hidetoshi Odagiri β€” Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee. He is extremely strict with the rules and believes that discipline must be maintained above all else.

Chihiro Fushimi β€” Treasurer of the Council. She manages the money and financial documents. Although very shy, she is dedicated, honest, and trustworthy.

The protagonist

After some time at Gekkoukan, Mitsuru Kirijo invites the protagonist to join the Student Council, believing him to be a responsible and reliable student. Upon accepting the invitation, he begins attending the Council room after classes.

It is in this environment that the protagonist gets to know Chihiro Fushimi better, initiating the Social Link of the Justice Arcana. The Council also serves as the setting for various events and dialogues involving Hidetoshi Odagiri.

Although the Student Council has no direct connection to SEES or the Dark Hour, it represents one aspect of the protagonist's school life, showing his involvement in Gekkoukan's activities and allowing him to strengthen his bonds with other students.

Tartars

Tartarus is a gigantic tower that appears in place of Gekkoukan Academy during the Dark Hour. It is the main dungeon in Persona 3, where SEES trains, defeats Shadows, and seeks answers about the Dark Hour.

Tartarus is divided into several blocks (Thebel, Arqa, Yabbashah, Tziah, Harabah, and Adamah), which are unlocked as the story progresses. Each floor is randomly generated, with different corridors, chests, Shadows, and events each time you visit.

As the team ascends the floors, they face increasingly stronger enemies, collect money, equipment, and materials, and gain experience to evolve their Personas. On certain floors, there are obstacle bosses that must be defeated to continue climbing.

Progress is usually interrupted by barriers until a new Full Moon is completed. After that, a new block of Tartarus is released, allowing exploration to continue to the top of the tower.

How the moon works

In Persona 3, a major story event occurs on each Full Moon. On these nights, SEES stops exploring Tartarus to confront an Arcane Shadow, a boss far more powerful than ordinary Shadows.

Throughout the month, the characters train in Tartarus, strengthen their Personas, and prepare for the confrontation. When the Full Moon arrives, the team investigates the location where the Shadow appeared and faces a unique boss, each with different mechanics and scenarios.

After defeating the Shadow of the Full Moon, the story progresses, new mysteries are revealed, and a new Tartarus block is unlocked for exploration. This cycle repeats throughout the game: explore Tartarus during the month β†’ confront the Shadow of the Full Moon β†’ advance the story β†’ unlock a new area of Tartarus.

Initially, SEES believes that defeating all the Full Moon Shadows will end the Dark Hour, but later discovers that the situation is far more complex and that there is an even greater threat behind these events.

The main supporting characters in Persona 3 are:

Igor – The master of the Velvet Room. He guides the protagonist and performs the Persona fusion.

Your Persona

Your Persona must be created and defined through your demonstrated personality, such as being kind, funny, etc., and it must be the name of an entity or god.

how to awaken a persona

In Persona 3, a Persona awakens when someone faces a moment of extreme stress, fear, or accepts a deep part of themselves. This awakening happens during the Dark Hour, when the person's potential to summon a Persona is released. To summon it in battle, SEES members use a device called an Evoker, which resembles a pistol. They point the Evoker at their own head and pull the trigger. The Evoker doesn't fire a bullet; it creates a strong psychological impact that helps the user overcome their fear of death and manifest their Persona.
