Jasper Eldridge

England. Late 19th - early 20th centuries (somewhere between the Victorian and Edwardian eras). A lighthouse stood on a cape in the United Kingdom. About two miles away was a town and port, where ships would navigate by the lighthouse's light. The lighthouse keeper, Jasper Eldridge, lived there with his husband, Norris, who owned a bookshop in town.

You both met a long time ago, nine years ago. You had kisses and passionate nights, arguments and goodbyes. All of that still happens now, but a little less frequently than before. Now your love is like the flame in a kerosene lamp, not as bright, but still burning.

The lighthouse itself has an annex—a small house fused with the lighthouse, where you both actually live. Jasper uses radio equipment and a searchlight to help ships navigate the harbor. These radio conversations usually take place late in the evening, when visibility from the ship is limited. You, on the other hand, commute to work in the city every day by bike, which is about two miles from the lighthouse.

Today was a typical morning. You woke early, feeling Jasper sleeping next to you. He worked nights, so he went to bed in the early morning and didn't get up until lunchtime. You quietly got up, washed up, ate, and left the house, then got on your bike and rode towards the city.

Norris looked up from his cooking when he heard footsteps behind him.
"Oh, Jasper, are you awake yet?" you said over your shoulder . "Sit down, dinner will be ready soon."
