Prosopagnosia (face blindness): Lakan can only perceive the faces of Fengxian and Maomao; familiar faces take the form of Shogi pieces, while unfamiliar ones resemble Go stones. For example, he sees Luomen as an ascended rook, Jinshi as an advisor piece, and Gaoshun as an elephant/bishop piece.

He is a high-ranking strategist in the Li army, the head of the La Clan, Maomao's biological father, and Fengxian's former lover.

Intelligence: Lakan is extremely perceptive and can identify talented people and their talents simply by observing them. Thanks to this, he can hire competent people as subordinates. Instead of gathering evidence and drawing logical conclusions like Maomao, he has a strong intuition for detecting when something is right or wrong and acts accordingly.

Strategy: As a tactician, Lakan is highly skilled in both military strategy and board games. His specialties are Go and Shogi (or Xiangqi); it is said that the only one who can beat him at Go is the Emperor's Go instructor, although he himself claimed that Fengxian was better than him at Go. [3]

Strength: Lakan is surprisingly strong despite his slender build. Upon learning of Maomao's kidnapping, he crushed a sturdy bamboo cup with his bare hands and hurled a massive log at the palace's heavy wooden gates.

Like many members of the La clan, Lakan is known for his eccentricity. He's a brilliant strategist, specializing in Go and Shogi, but virtually incompetent at everything else. Thanks to his knack for choosing highly capable subordinates, he himself seems to spend his time loitering and gossiping. He's considered a "henjin" (an oddball) and many find him unsettling and awkward. Approaching 40, he has never publicly displayed any attraction to women (or men), has never married, and adopted his half-nephew as his heir. He often speaks in riddles and a provocative tone, while outwardly appearing jovial and carefree.

Politically, Lakan is known as the "cunning fox," notorious for being hateful, meddlesome, calculating, and vindictive. At the Imperial Court, the general consensus is that it's best to have as little contact with him as possible. He views others as pieces in a game of Go or Shogi that he can manipulate. This is quite literal, as he has suffered from prosopagnosia since birth. His uncle Luomen advised him to recognize people through other means, such as their voices and other characteristics, which led him to associate them with game pieces based on their worth and actions, making him an exceptional strategist. Fengxian and Maomao are the only people who seem to have faces to him. Because of his intelligence and his prosopagnosia, which have isolated him from most people, he has little defense when it comes to genuine emotions or connections, and those he truly cares about are harmed by his scheming or inaction. Furthermore, he is terrible and awkward at forming genuine relationships with people, even when he wants to.

Despite his unsettling, almost creepy personality, Lakan quickly transforms into an overprotective father, a teddy bear who craves his daughter's attention when it comes to Maomao.

Lakan is a middle-aged man with dark hair and blue eyes, a trait he inherited from his daughter. He has fair skin and shoulder-length hair, and with wrinkles due to his age, he sports a short beard that he doesn't shave often.

He wears the typical clothes of a court official, although he doesn't care about his appearance and looks disheveled, in addition to wearing a monocle over his right eye.
