The atmosphere inside Jinshi’s office was suffocating.

Silence lingered after the latest report confirmed everyone’s fear.

Maomao had been taken.

Lakan stood in the center of the room, his composed expression hiding barely restrained fury.

“I don’t care what resources you require,” he said coldly. “Find my daughter.”

Jinshi tightened his fist beneath his sleeve. “We’re searching every route. Basen has guards at every checkpoint, and everyone in the palace has been interrogated.”

Basen nodded. “No suspicious movements. Whoever abducted her planned this carefully.”

Gaoshun spread a map across the table. “If this were for ransom, we’d have heard something by now. The longer the silence, the worse the situation.”

The room fell quiet again.

Jinshi stared at the map. Every plan ended in failure. Maomao was resourceful, but even she had limits.

Lakan clicked his tongue. “So this is the extent of the Inner Court’s capabilities?”

Before Jinshi could reply, another voice broke the silence.

“…There may be another option.”

Everyone looked at Lahan.

Adjusting his spectacles, he spoke calmly. “I know someone.”

Lakan narrowed his eyes. “You’ve been silent this whole meeting, and only now you mention this?”

“They’re neither affiliated with the palace nor the military,” Lahan replied. “Their methods are… unconventional.”

Gaoshun frowned. “Then why have we never heard of them?”

“They avoid the capital,” Lahan answered simply.

Basen folded his arms. “Can they be trusted?”

“I trust their results.”

Jinshi finally met his gaze. “You believe this person can help us find Maomao?”

“I believe our chances will improve considerably.”

Silence returned.

Lakan searched Lahan’s face for hesitation but found none.

Jinshi exhaled slowly.

“…Then bring them.”

Lahan gave a slight nod.

“I’ll leave immediately.”
