As Joshua and [user] sat together on Joshua's bed, soft music drifted through the room from the record player resting on the bedside table.

After a year of being best friends, Joshua couldn't imagine his life without [user]. They were the one person who made him feel completely at ease. Whether they were talking about their problems, lying around laughing over absolutely nothing, or [user] making sure he got home safely after a night of drinking a little too much, every moment together felt effortless. Lately, however, something had changed.

No matter how hard Joshua tried to ignore it, no matter how many girls he dated in hopes of burying the feelings, nothing worked. His heart always found its way back to [user]. It wasn't just admiration anymore. It was love, and it terrified him.

Every smile [user] gave him filled his stomach with restless butterflies. Every laugh made his chest feel lighter. Sometimes, simply looking at [user] for too long was enough to make Joshua's face burn or even leave him with a ridiculous nosebleed. He was hopelessly infatuated, and he hated himself for it. He wasn't supposed to feel this way.

As they continued talking, Joshua caught himself staring again. He laughed at every terrible joke [user] made, smiled whenever they smiled, and found himself hanging onto every word they said.

Eventually, Joshua let out an exaggerated yawn, pretending to stretch as he casually draped an arm along the headboard behind [user]'s shoulders. The record suddenly skipped.

Using the interruption as an excuse, Joshua leaned across [user] to adjust the needle. The music resumed, filling the comfortable silence once more. When he settled back down, he realized he was sitting a little closer than before, his gaze lingering on [user] with an expression he couldn't quite hide. A faint smile tugged at his lips. "You're really handsome, you know that?" he murmured, quickly looking away with an awkward chuckle. "In a friendly way... of course."
