The Omnipresent Antagonist
Although he remains hidden in his Egyptian mansion for most of the story, his influence is absolute. He is the driving force behind the protagonists' journey, as his awakening after decades of dormancy has caused the Joestar bloodline to develop Stands, endangering Holly's life. Therefore, the group led by Jotaro and Joseph travels to Egypt with the sole purpose of defeating him.
Strategy and Control
DIO acts as an "evil messiah" who attracts various Stand users through his charisma and ability to manipulate others into fighting on his behalf. He sends his minions—many of them based on the Major Arcana of the Tarot—to intercept and eliminate the Joestar group as they travel through various countries.
Nature and Abilities
Jonathan's Body: Having usurped the body of his former rival, DIO has gained greater endurance and physical strength, though he is still in the process of fully integrating with it during the events of Part 3. Personality: He is presented as a narcissistic, ambitious, and extremely self-confident being. He considers himself superior to all other humans and sees the Joestar family as his only real obstacle to world domination. For much of the series, he maintains a serene, philosophical, and composed demeanor, secluded in the shadows while awaiting the final confrontation. The World: This is his primary Stand. It possesses immense destructive power, and its most feared ability is the capacity to stop time for a few seconds, making him a nearly invincible enemy in direct combat. Furthermore, it is suggested that, by using a Joestar's body, he can manifest abilities similar to those of other members of the bloodline.

A Stand is a physical manifestation of a person's psychic energy and spirit ("fighting spirit"). It manifests as an entity that accompanies the user and obeys their commands.
Invisibility: As a general rule, Stands can only be seen and sensed by other Stand users.
Vital bond: The user and their Stand share a deep connection. If the Stand is damaged, the user receives the same physical damage. Likewise, if the Stand is incapacitated or the user dies, the Stand disappears.
Damage Rules: Only another Stand can damage a Stand.
Key Features
Uniqueness: A person can only have one Stand.
Invocation: The user must consciously invoke it, although there are "Automatic Stands" that operate autonomously under specific conditions.
Variety: Although many have a humanoid form, they can take the form of objects, machines, or even phenomena integrated into the user's body.

A key principle established in Part 3 is that there is an inverse relationship: the greater the Stand's physical power and proximity, the shorter its range tends to be. Short-range Stands are usually the most powerful in direct combat (like Star Platinum), while long-range Stands tend to have more specialized or situational abilities.

The story begins in Victorian England with Jonathan Joestar, a kind-hearted young nobleman.
The antagonist: His father adopts Dio Brando, who seeks to destroy the family in order to inherit their fortune.
The catalyst: After failing in his attempt to poison Jonathan's father, Dio uses the Stone Mask to become an immortal vampire.
The resolution: Jonathan learns the Hamon technique (solar energy) to fight Dio. In the final confrontation, Jonathan sacrifices his life on a ship to stop Dio, although Dio manages to decapitate him and take possession of his body to survive. Set in 1938, this part follows Joseph Joestar, Jonathan's grandson, who is a roguish, resourceful young man and a natural Hamon user.
The conflict: Joseph finds himself embroiled in a struggle against the Pillar Men (ancient beings who created the Stone Mask) who seek the Red Stone of Aja to become perfect beings.
The family connection: Joseph fights alongside Caesar Anthonio Zeppeli (grandson of Will A. Zeppeli, Jonathan's master) and is trained by Lisa Lisa, who is revealed to be his mother (protected by Speedwagon since she was a baby).
The outcome: Joseph defeats Kars, the leader of the Pillar Men, and marries Suzi QY. Set in 1989, the bloodline is threatened by the return of its ancestral enemy.
The conflict: Dio Brando (now known as DIO) has awakened from his slumber at the bottom of the sea, having taken over the body of Jonathan Joestar. This causes Jonathan's descendants (Joseph and his daughter, Holly) to awaken a spiritual ability called a Stand.
The protagonist: Jotaro Kujo, grandson of Joseph and part of the new generation of Joestars. Jotaro is a rebellious teenager who discovers his Stand, Star Platinum.
The journey: As Holly's Stand is slowly killing her (due to her kind nature), Jotaro, Joseph, and a group of allies travel from Japan to Egypt to find and defeat DIO.

Jotaro Kujo: A tall, muscular young man with an intimidating presence. He wears a modified Japanese school uniform (a long, dark jacket with gold chains) and a cap that seems to blend into his messy black hair. He has sharp features, intense eyes, and a stoic expression.
Joseph Joestar: In Part 3, he appears as a tall, robust old man with gray hair and beard. He wears an adventurous outfit consisting of a light-colored shirt, baggy pants, and a fedora. His right hand is a mechanical prosthesis.
Muhammad Avdol: An imposing Egyptian man, tall and strongly built. He has a dark complexion, dark hair styled with a band, and usually wears a colorful suit with a vest reminiscent of traditional Egyptian clothing, often decorated with gold motifs.
Noriaki Kakyoin: A slender, average-height teenager with shoulder-length reddish hair and a distinctive forelock. His most distinctive feature is the scar-like cuts around his eyes (due to DIO's flesh), and he wears a tight-fitting, high-collared olive-green school uniform.
Jean Pierre Polnareff: A tall, athletic man with a remarkable physique. His most iconic physical feature is his extremely long, silver hair, styled straight up. He wears a sleeveless suit with tight trousers and heart-shaped earrings.

The Foundation is the group's invisible "guardian angel." Without its resources, the trip from Japan to Egypt would have been impossible to organize under the constant threat of DIO's assassins. Its contributions include:
Transportation: They provide the group with key resources, such as vehicles, boats, and even helicopters to access remote areas or emergency situations.
Intelligence: The Foundation constantly tracks supernatural threats and keeps the group informed about the dangers they face.
Medical Care: They are responsible for healing group members after battles. A critical example is their advanced medical intervention to treat the wounded and provide state-of-the-art medical supplies unavailable to the general public. This is the most important division during Stardust Crusaders. After decades of study (beginning with the investigation of the Stone Mask in Part 2), the Foundation has specialized in the paranormal. In Part 3, this translates to:
Stand Analysis: The organization works to understand the nature of Stands, the outbreaks that cause diseases in Joestars, and the threats posed by DIO.
Data collection: SPW scientists provide information on DIO's whereabouts and the dangers that await the group throughout their journey around the world. Although the Foundation usually operates in the shadows, its purpose is absolute: the protection of the Joestar family. They are an organization with unlimited resources, a global network, and cutting-edge technology that, almost religiously, dedicates all its technical capabilities to ensuring that Joseph, Jotaro, and their allies do not perish before evil.

In its most common form, The Fool has the appearance of a quadrupedal creature that mixes animal features with mechanical and tribal elements:
Structure: It looks like a cross between a dog and a machine. Its hind legs, instead of being conventional limbs, are two car wheels (often compared to those of a Formula 1 car).
Aesthetics: It features an aesthetic reminiscent of artifacts and masks from indigenous or tribal cultures, a hallmark of Hirohiko Araki's design style.
Components: The body is covered by what appears to be metallic armor and features a series of cables or hoses extending throughout its body, as well as details such as feathers decorating its structure. Since the Stand is composed of sand, its shape is not fixed and can be altered according to Iggy's will.
Total versatility: Iggy can make The Fool take almost any form he needs for the situation. He can create wings to glide, shields or domes to protect himself and others, or even transform into everyday objects.
Mimicry: It is capable of imitating people or other Stands with surprising accuracy. A memorable example is when Iggy uses The Fool to create a sand replica of DIO to deceive Vanilla Ice. Body: Predominantly brown, cream, and yellowish tones.
Details: The "armor" pieces and wheels are usually dark (black or very deep earth tones), while the cables often have contrasting colors such as red.

Before being recruited by the Speedwagon Foundation, Iggy was the "king" of New York City's stray dogs. This past shaped his personality: he is extremely proud and solitary. He doesn't see humans as masters, but as equals or, often, as inferiors, which leads him to treat the Joestar group members with considerable disdain at first. Iggy has no interest in the mission to save Holly Kujo. His most notable traits are:
Irreverence: He enjoys teasing others, especially Polnareff. His favorite pastime is playing cruel pranks on him or humiliating him (such as biting his hair or farting in his face).
Disinterest: He almost always prefers to be sleeping or eating his favorite treat, coffee-flavored gum, completely ignoring the tension or danger surrounding the group. Although he seems like a slacker, Iggy is a born survivor. His intelligence is very high for an animal; he knows when a battle is too dangerous and often prefers to avoid conflict if it is not strictly necessary. He does not follow a chivalrous code of honor like Avdol or Kakyoin; he fights in a dirty, strategic, and efficient way. Sense of honor: Although he denies being an ally, when the situation becomes critical and his companions are in real danger (especially after the events in Egypt), Iggy reveals an unexpected sense of duty.
Extreme bravery: During his final battle against Pet Shop, Iggy demonstrates that he is willing to risk his life not for glory, but for protection and loyalty to those he reluctantly came to consider his "pack".
