Water Breathing (の, Mizu no kokyū ? )水みず呼こ吸きゅう is one of the five major Breathing Styles that is directly derived from Sun Breathing.

The Water Breathing Technique has 10 techniques, with the eleventh technique created and exclusively used by the current Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka, along with various modified versions of pre-existing forms. All 11 forms have been demonstrated.

First Form: Water Surface Slash (ノり, Ichi no kata: Minamo Giri ? ) 壱いち型かた 水みな面も斬ぎ [ 5 ] - The user unleashes a single horizontal slash aimed at decapitating their target.

Second Form: Water Wheel (ノ, Ni no kata: Mizu Guruma ? ) 弐に型かた 水みず車ぐるま [ 6 ] - The user jumps forward into the air and performs a front flip, releasing a single vertical slash in a circular motion.

Second Form: Improved Lateral Water Wheel (ノ・, Ni no kata kai: Yoko Mizu Guruma ? ) 弐に型かた改かい 横よこ水みず車ぐるま [ 7 ] - An alternate variation of Second Form: Water Wheel created by Tanjiro Kamado who released horizontal rotation, not vertical rotation.

Third Form: Flowing Dance (ノい, San no kata: Ryūryū Mai ? ) 参さん型かた 流りゅう流りゅう舞ま [ 8 ] - The user swings and bends his sword in a circular motion following his body and dances in a flowing pattern, slashing everything in his path.

Fourth Form: Wave Attack (ノ, Shi no kata: Uchishio ? ) 肆し型かた 打うち潮しお [ 9 ] - The user performs multiple slashes in a fluid manner.
Fierce Wave, Turbulent (・, Uchishio - Ran ? ) 打うち潮しお乱らん [ 10 ] - An enhanced version of the Fourth Form: Fierce Wave . The user increases the number of consecutive attacks and slashes as well as increasing their accuracy to hit specific targets in chaotic situations.

Fifth Form: Blessing Rain After Drought (ノの, Go no kata: Kanten no Jiu ? ) noご型かた 干かん天てん慈じ雨う [ 11 ] - The user changes the grip of his sword and decapitates the opponent in one flowing strike that causes little to no pain. This is a 'sword strike of kindness', used when the enemy willingly surrenders, visualized as a gentle, warm drizzle of rain.

Sixth Form: Water Whirl (ノねじれ, Roku no kata: Nejire Uzu ? ) 陸ろく型かた渦うず [ 12 ] - The user spins their body, using their sword to perform a powerful spinning motion that generates a vortex of air to shred anything caught in its current like a giant sharp sword. Its effect and efficiency are enhanced underwater, where the user can draw water around their weapon to create a swirling current that enhances their slash.

Seventh Form: Falling Wave Thrust (ノき, Shichi no kata: Shizuku Hamonzuki ? ) 漆しち型かた 雫しずく波は紋もん突づ [ 14 ] - The user performs a precise, fast and accurate thrust with their sword, blocking any attack from any opponent. This is visualized as numerous waves appearing in front of them.
Drop Ripple Thrust, Curve (き・, Shizuku Hamonzuki - Kyoku ? ) 雫しずく波は紋もん突づ曲きょく [ 15 ] - A modified attack that hits from a specific angle that suits the structure of the sword that almost negates the impact and momentum of the moving object.

Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin (ノ, Hachi no kata: Takitsubo ? ) 捌はち型かた 滝たき壼つぼ [ 16 ] - The user slashes the target vertically in a flowing motion that is most effective when they are falling downwards, sending several waterfalls crashing down on the opponent in front of them.

Ninth Form: Scattering, Surging Water Stream (ノ・, Ku no kata: Suiryū Shibuki - Ran ? ) 玖く型かた 水すい流りゅう飛沫しぶき乱らん [ 17 ] - The user alters their footwork in such a way that minimizes the time and landing surface required upon landing, allowing the user to move indefinitely. Ideal when fighting in places without solid footing, their movements become so fluid and fast that they appear to leave puddles of water splashing with each step they take.

Tenth Form: Constant Flow (ノ, Jū no kata: Seisei Ruten ? ) 拾じゅう型かた 生せい生せい流る転てん [ 18 ] - The user charges towards the target while performing a continuous flowing attack with their sword whose power and speed increase over time using momentum, before jumping high and delivering a powerful downward slash. The attack appears to take the form of a green-eyed Japanese water dragon that accompanies the user in battle.

Eleventh Form: Dead Calm (ノ, Jū Ichi no kata: Nagi ? ) 拾じゅう壱いち型かた 凪なぎ [ 19 ] - The personal creation of the current Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka. The user stops all bodily movement and enters a state of complete calm, parrying, blocking, and cutting incoming attacks at unseen speeds with their sword. When used, the user visualizes themselves in the middle of a raging ocean that instantly calms down into a clear, reflective pool. However, its effectiveness is limited, as powerful attacks can penetrate defenses.
