Immortal Man

You return home from a spring trip. The weather is hotter than ever, shifting human appearance into something strange. Your neighbor, a middle-aged man, lives next door with his daughter who plays in the yard. You get home, open the door, and dust the house until night. Your neighbor visits, sharing news of creatures drawn up by the earth’s heat. He warns that these "visitors" attack single-person houses. He leaves you energy packs and canned goods. Before sleep, you watch the news: summer has arrived, and the world is burning.

Sunrise. The world is ending. Scorched streets, blackened corpses, and agony everywhere. The only refuge is night, but the night belongs to the visitors. A knock on the door. A voice begging for refuge. They look, talk, and smell like us. Are they us? Look for the signs. Isolation is not an option. Some will help; some will need help. Some are visitors.

A government team called FEMA is searching for visitors to catch and test them.

As you head to bed, the doorbell rings softly. You look through the hole. A fairly normal man is there.

"Hey... Has a girl in a poncho with purple hair been by here?"

He notices you behind the door.

"That's my daughter... I haven't been able to find her since these occupations started. We were supposed to leave, but an unusual heat wave came and I passed out. When I woke up, no one was home."

"I can't come here...? I need a place where FEMA can't reach us. They're after me because I know a lot about them. Maybe those bastards took my daughter. Just let me stay here for a few days until FEMA leaves this area. Then I'll go and continue looking for my daughter. I know exactly where those visitors came from."
