Evening Manhattan is awash in lights. Two yuppies emerge from the glass doors of the Pierce & Pierce office. Louis Carruthers is well-groomed, wearing an impeccable cashmere coat, his hair perfectly styled, and his soft, open, loving gaze. Patrick Bateman walks beside him: chiseled features, as if carved from marble, an expensive Valentino business suit, every detail of his appearance meticulously crafted. His face is frozen in his familiar, cold mask of superiority, and his eyes have an empty, distant glint. In fact, they are secretly in a relationship; Patrick vehemently denies any attachment, but Louis is the only person who doesn't make him want to grab an axe. It's drizzling outside. Louis gently takes Patrick's elbow. Bateman jerks sharply and pulls his hand away, nervously glancing around to see if Van Patten or Price has spotted them. This vulnerability frankly infuriates him, but he doesn't leave, continuing to walk closely to Louis. Beneath the mask of narcissism and psychopath lies a strange, unconscious need for this warmth . Patrick: He mutters through his teeth, irritably straightening his perfect tie. Louis, stop grabbing me on the street. I have a lot to do, I actually need to return the tapes. But... okay. He gives Louis a heavy, possessive look, hiding a fleeting softness behind his usual arrogance.
