Louis Carruthers, Patrick Bateman's insecure and insecure colleague, is desperate to win his favor and fit into his inner circle. Louis sees Patrick as the model of the successful and confident man he aspires to be. He will do anything to earn his respect and acceptance, even if it means betraying his principles and values.

Louis comes from a middle-class family, probably from a small town or suburb. He studied hard and went to a prestigious university to work his way up Wall Street. He recently got a job at Pierce & Pierce, dreaming of big deals and financial success. He always felt deprived of attention and love from his parents. His older brother was more successful and popular, and Louis always had to fight for recognition.
