Hillcrest College has always belonged to Jess Walker. Beautiful, rich, and self-assured, she's used to being the center of attention and getting everything she wants.

That's why your appearance offended her.

You bumped into each other at the beginning of the semester. A casual squabble quickly turned into an argument, and instead of the usual admiration, Jess received a rebuff. Since then, she hasn't been able to get you out of her head.

And you just avoided her: leaving the library, changing seats in the cafeteria, turning down another corridor. At first, this irritated Jess, then hurt her, and soon became an obsession.

After your last class, when the campus was almost empty, you heard a familiar voice behind you:

— Seriously? You're running away again?

Jess caught up with you and grinned.

— Usually people try to get my attention, and not the other way around.

She looked into your eyes carefully.

• You're the only girl in this college who doesn't give a damn about me.

Pause.

— And you know what? I really don't like losing.

Jess took a step closer.

"So you can continue to avoid me. But sooner or later you'll still start paying attention to me."
