19. Zanpakutō - representing sentient spiritual beings closely linked to their owner's soul. Each Zanpakutō is unique: it has its own name, character, and appearance, which reflect the Shinigami's personality and power.

Enhanced Durability: Ukitake is extremely durable, even by Shinigami standards. He was able to withstand devastating attacks from Captain-Commander Yamamoto, whose Zanpakutō is the most destructive in all of Soul Society. He was also able to easily block Lilynette's Cero with his bare hand, though he admitted it wasn't even Gillian-level strong.

Medical Knowledge: Due to years of undergoing various medical procedures for health issues, he has accumulated extensive knowledge of medications and treatment methods. Consequently, he was assigned to treat many important members of the Gotei 13 during the devastating war against the invading Wandenreich army.

Master Swordsman: While he loathes the concept of engaging in combat, Ukitake is apparently one of the most skilled swordsmen in all of Soul Society, able to match Yamamoto's skill. His sword's unique Shikai form and accompanying abilities make his fighting style unconventional among Shinigami, but demonstrate his mastery of the art.

Shunpo Master: As a captain, Ukitake excels in the art of Shunpo. He was able to gain significant distance while attempting to distance himself from Captain-Commander Yamamoto during their pursuit through Soul Society.

Kidō Master: Ukitake possesses a more than average knowledge of Kidō, allowing him to assist in the resealing of the Jōkaishō. He also assists in the opening of the Senkaimon. He is capable of performing fairly high-level spells without reading the incantations, and he can easily use Kidō in combat.

Immense Spiritual Power: As one of the oldest and strongest captains of the Gotei 13, Ukitake possesses immense spiritual power. He, along with his best friend Shunsui Kyōraku, is said to possess spiritual power unmatched by their peers or predecessors. During his battle against the Captain-in-Chief, he was not overwhelmed by Yamamoto's spiritual pressure, a situation most people would have been in.

Masterful Reiatsu Control: Captain Ukitake spent his entire life sustaining his ailing body with nothing but his Reiatsu. His sheer volume of Reiatsu was incredible, even for a captain. When the remnants of the Gotei 13's high-ranking members combined their Reiatsu to open the gates to the Soul King Palace, the loss of his Reiatsu was irreparable.

Ukitake is the eldest son of the lower-ranking Ukitake family. He has five brothers and two sisters, whom he is essentially the sole caregiver of. At the age of three, Ukitake developed an incurable lung disease that turned his hair white. His parents were deeply superstitious, and when doctors gave up on him as hopeless, they took Ukitake to the outskirts of the 78th district of eastern Rukongai, where they prayed at the shrine of the old fallen god Mimihagi to save their child. It was thanks to Mimihagi that Ukitake survived and eventually became a Shinigami. He, along with Shunsui Kyōraku, was one of the first graduates of Captain Yamamoto's Shinobi Academy, and they were the first graduates to become captains. He was also personally trained by Yamamoto himself.[12] He and Kyōraku are the oldest captains in the entire Gotei 13, with the exception of Retsu Unohana and Yamamoto himself. It is stated that the four of them have been captains of the Gotei 13 for at least 100 years, from 110 years ago to the present.

Ukitake is very kind and noble, and is respected by all. He always treats others with respect, even those weaker than him and of lower rank. As a result, anyone in Soul Society can easily approach him for advice or his support as captain. Due to his high moral standards, Ukitake will never allow harm to come to his subordinates or anyone trying to protect them. He refuses to give in when he believes something is unfair, and will even break the rules to do what is right. He is quite perceptive, as demonstrated by his ability to accurately assess people's personalities, as Yamamoto notes, and understands when they are feeling lonely. Ukitake may give people strange and unnecessary gifts for no apparent reason, particularly Tōshirō Hitsugaya, due to their similar-sounding names and hair color. Thanks to his long service in the Gotei 13 and his status as one of the most experienced fighters in Soul Society, Ukitake always maintains a high level of honor and integrity during battle, much like his best friend, Shunsui Kyōraku. He refuses to fight a child, or even in the presence of one, even if the child is an Arrancar and only appears to be one. He always maintains a semblance of respect for his opponents and courtesy in combat situations. He is also very compassionate.

Ukitake is a tall Shinigami with green eyes and waist-length white hair. He wears his bangs parted on the right side. Due to an illness that occasionally causes him to cough up blood, he appears somewhat emaciated. Because of this, he often spends time at Ugendō, his family estate. During one of his bouts as a child, his hair turned white in three days. This explains why his eyebrows are black, as was his hair.

110 years ago, he wore his hair in a long ponytail. Currently, his hair is long, almost reaching his waist. His hair is parted on the left side, but one long strand falls to the right side, covering his eye. Ukitake wears a standard Shinigami robe and a captain's long-sleeved haori with a scarlet lining. He also wears a narrow white obi, which holds his Zanpakutō. He is 187 cm tall and weighs 72 kg.
