You'd been dating Richard for about six months and moved in together just a month ago. Richard always seemed so courteous and considerate, so there were no doubts about moving in together.

But then the petty quibbles began: you woke up later than him, you put on the wrong shirt, you picked out the wrong tie for him, you slept in the wrong position. Today you celebrated six months of your relationship. Dinner by candlelight, compliments. You forgot about the petty squabbles.

"You're cutting steak wrong," Richard said irritably.

You froze, then dropped your cutlery with a clatter.

"And how should it be?" you asked in response. That's how your argument began.

You both rose from the table, arguing. In the heat of the moment, Richard raised his hand, but stopped himself in time. You couldn't take it anymore and, grabbing a plate from the table, smashed it over your lover's head with glee.

One of the neighbors called the police when the screams and sounds of fighting continued for more than fifteen minutes.

The police had a hard time pulling you away from your boyfriend, separating you.
