Excalibur Galatine: Also known as the Sword of Resurrected Victory, it is the shining sword wielded by Gawain. It is the sister sword of Excalibur, also originally owned by the Lady of the Lake, but it is not as well-known as a holy sword and is rarely mentioned because its legend is overshadowed by King Arthur's holy sword. While Excalibur represents the lights of the planet, Sir Gawain's holy sword is said to symbolize the sun's rays of heat, with a pseudo-sun contained within the hilt. Artoria Pendragon has the providence of the night and the pedigree of the moon goddess, Alto and Artemis, while Gawain is the knight blessed by the sun. It is similar to its owner in that it displays its greatest power at midday, revealing the unsurpassed sharpness of the edge that cleanly severed both the shield and chain of the enemy Saracen soldier, Priam.
Unlike the centralized pillar of light that Excalibur produces when attacking, capable of destroying castles, Galatine generates a wide-ranging, radiation-type attack that completely annihilates an enemy army. Its characteristic sun reflects off it upon activation as rays of solar heat. Gawain throws the sword into the air, where the pseudo-sun within creates a miniature sun before falling back into his range. As the sun hovers above his head, he generates a large magic circle with a sun symbol at its center beneath him as he throws the sword behind his back. With a motion akin to drawing a sword, the pseudo-sun and the energy channeled into it extend the attack as far as the blade can be seen, roughly thirteen kilometers, like its prototype, Caladbolg. It unleashes a horizontal beam of fire that pierces the enemy and explodes into a giant fireball that engulfs them.
Personal skills
Saint's Numeral (Rank EX): A special constitution possessed by Sir Gawain. His power triples during the three hours between 9 AM and noon, and between 3 PM and sunset. This indicates that 3 is the sacred number of the Celts. Due to this ability, Gawain is renowned as an unparalleled knight who has no rival during the day. Even Lancelot , considered the strongest knight of the Round Table, was forced to wait until sunset to deliver what proved to be a fatal blow. Rin Tohsaka states that as long as the sun shines, Gawain could be the most powerful Heroic Spirit , even greater than King Arthur . However, Gawain disagrees, stating that Artoria is not an ordinary Servant , but a High-Servant like the King of Conquerors . Therefore, her existence is truly superior to his own. When Hakuno's Servants first fight Gawain, they are left breathless, having to thank SE.RA.PH for their lives. His power surpasses even Hakuno Kishinami's expectations. Although Hakuno and his Servant had defeated many powerful enemies, such as Li Shuwen and Lu Bu , or Cú Chulainn and Arcueid Brunestud (Berserker) , it was beyond their capabilities to even scratch Gawain's silver armor. Karna considers Gawain under the sun's rays to be a powerful Saber , and warns Tamamo-no-Mae that fighting him in that state would be reckless, despite being fully aware that Tamamo was capable of wieldingthe Moon Cell 's authority at that moment. Instead, Karna recommends guiding Gawain to Lu Bu, who should be a match for Gawain. In this way, Tamamo can destroy the elements that empowered Gawain by drawing sunlight into the Moon Cell. Altera is strong enough to defeat Gawain in the Capital of Rome, where the Sun itself shines. While serving the Lion King , Gawain received the gift "No Night," which causes the sun to shine wherever he goes, even at night, ensuring he is always at his best. As a servant of Chaldea, he later gains the enhanced skill "Charisma Without Night ," a result of the gift and the events of the singularity being etched into his Saint Graph . Unlike the other Lion King Knights who arrived at their own answers, Gawain has not yet shed his past sins. Charisma (Rank E): The natural talent for commanding an army. Charisma is a rare talent, but it sometimes influences the development of its possessor's personality. In Sir Gawain's case, his honesty is what led to his reputation as "the forgetful knight."
Class Skills
Magical Resistance (Rank B): Nullifies spells with an incantation of less than three verses. Even if targeted by powerful forms of sorcery and major rituals, they are unlikely to affect him. Horsemanship (Rank B): Most vehicles and animals can be controlled with above-average skill, including vehicles that did not exist during the time in which the user lived. However, phantom species such as monstrous beasts cannot be controlled.
Skills
Gawain is said to be a heroic spirit possibly more powerful than King Arthur when the sun is at its zenith at midday. He is an extremely skilled swordsman who wields Excalibur Galatine , a sister sword to Excalibur bestowed upon him by an elemental known as the Lady of the Lake . Though not as famous as Excalibur, it possesses power that could rival the legendary blade. Galatine holds within it a fragment of the sun, which is said to be able to purge evil. In his own words, the sword is the embodiment of the sun itself.
Compared to the providence King Arthur receives from the moon— Artemis , the lineage of the moon goddess—Gawain is the knight who receives the grace of the sun and is granted the title of "Knight of the Sun." This ability, Saint's Numeral (聖者の数字, Seija no Sūji ) , demonstrates its maximum power at midday when the sun is at its zenith. Between 9:00 and 12:00 and between 15:00 and sunset, all his powers increase by a factor of three. This relates to the ancient belief that the number "3" is the sacred number of the Celtic deities. In the game, the player cannot damage him due to this ability until measures are taken to avoid or negate it. During battle, he can still use this ability to a certain extent, activating it when his HP falls below 10%. This allows her to greatly reduce the damage caused by enemy attacks for 1 turn, and she will use it on her fourth move.
Role
In Fate/Extra , Gawain is summoned by Leonardo B. Harwey as a Saber -class Servant , who calls him by his true name to intimidate his opponents. Saber follows Leonardo like a shadow and serves him as if he were a king.
He is the last Servant Hakuno has to face. Depending on the protagonist's Servants , Gawain interacts with them differently. With his defeat, Leonardo finally loses and thanks him for his service. Before disappearing, Saber remarks that it was an honor to witness such an honorable king.
In Fate/Grand Order, Gawain is summoned by the Lion King along with the other Knights of the Round Table . She gives them the choice to aid her in her "Holy Selection" or to oppose her, granting them half a day to decide. Gawain understands the significance of Artoria calling herself the Lion King and ultimately sides with her. He, along with Lancelot , Agravain , Tristan , Gareth , and Mordred, eliminates their former comrades who opposed the king, including Gawain's second brother, Gaheris , and forms the Knights of the Lion King. The Lion King bestows upon each of them a gift, with Gawain receiving "No Night" due to his desire to maximize his usefulness.
The Knights of the Lion King then march to the Holy Land, killing anyone who stands in their way. During their battle with the False Crusaders, the knights easily defeat their adversaries, with the exception of their leader, a Servant claiming to be Richard I , whose immense power is enough to fight on equal terms. Ultimately, Gareth willingly sacrifices himself, unable to bear the cruelty of his actions, and uses his own body to restrain the opponent, giving his companions the chance to finish the battle. Gawain is tasked with eliminating both his opponent and his sister, severing the last vestiges of his humanity and surrendering the territory to the Lion King to establish the Holy City.
Later, Gawain confronts the people seeking refuge in the Holy City, including Chaldea Ritsuka Fujimaru 's group , Mash Kyrielight , and Da Vinci . Three of the refugees are chosen to enter the city, while the rest are to be eliminated. Gawain fights the protagonist's group, who are trying to protect the people, and easily overwhelms them due to his superior abilities. However, the group is saved by Bedivere , whose appearance surprises Gawain. Bedivere manages to stop him with his arm, Airgetlám , allowing them to escape; but Gawain is confronted by the Lion King and the other knights because of his failure. Although he explains what happened, concealing the matter of Bedivere, the Lion King attacks him with Rhongomyniad , sending him flying. Gawain, however, manages to survive, causing the Lion King to spare him. During the final battle between the Lion King's forces, Chaldea, and their allies, Gawain faces King Hassan , who was specifically summoned to deal with Gawain. King Hassan blocks out the sun, weakening Gawain, but after some fighting, Hassan stops shielding him, no longer needing to. Gawain tries to use this opportunity to attack with Galatine, but Hassan is unaffected. King Hassan departs, declaring that the "Sunset Bell" has passed, leaving Gawain alone. Gawain then pursues Ritsuka, Mash, and Bedivere, who are trying to reach the Lion King. He explains that he joined the king because he wanted to fulfill the oath he had broken while alive. Gawain is ultimately defeated by the group, apologizing to the Lion King for his failure before disappearing.
Solomon: Gawain is one of the servants of the Camelot singularity who help Ritsuka Fujimaru against the Demon God Pillars and Againts The Beast I (Goetia).
Relations
Artoria Pendragon – Gawain blames himself for Artoria's death, viewing his distrust of Lancelot as a mistake that led to his king's demise. As a Servant , Gawain strives for perfect obedience to his Master as a way to atone for his past errors, and sees Leo as his second king. In Fate/Grand Order , guilt drives him to follow Artoria's every command, no matter how vile, in order to become the perfect knight. Lancelot – Gawain harbored a deep grudge against Lancelot in response to the latter's affair with Guinevere and the murder of his brothers. This resentment led him to prevent Lancelot's participation in the final battle, a decision that likely cost Artoria her life and which he regretted.
Personality
Gawain undertakes all kinds of tasks with seriousness, even if that task happens to be debt collection. Despite his serious nature, he has no dark side and interacts with everyone in a sincere and polite manner. While he can become enraged, he never harbors negative emotions like jealousy or malice, and his attitude is refreshing regardless of the battlefield. According to the other Knights of the Round Table , "his lack of sarcasm is a talent in itself." The fact that Gawain has never been envied, despite being blessed with talent and pedigree, is likely due to his own good nature and his natural tendency to view it as mere coincidence, never acting arrogantly. A loyal knight, his fidelity to the king is as unwavering as iron.
Gawain wished to serve a true king loyally, without question or doubt, like a true knight. He believed that quantity was more important than quality when it came to food. He was content with large quantities of potatoes, vinegar, bread, beer, and vegetables.
Appearance
Gawain appears as a tall young man with wavy blond hair, blue eyes, and long eyelashes. He wears silver armor with floral motifs over his black and dark blue chainmail. In Fate/Grand Order , Gawain gains a dark blue cloak, and in his final ascension, in addition to removing his chest plate, his cloak gains gold trim and a fur lining. He is often nicknamed Gorilla —primarily because of his horse, Gringolet —due to the "unchildlike muscle distribution" of his upper body.
Biography
One of the Knights of the Round Table in Arthurian myth, also known as the White Knight of the Round Table (円卓の白騎士, Entaku no Shirokishi ) . If King Arthur was night and the symbol of the moon itself, then Sir Gawain was day and the symbol of the sun. He acted as King Arthur's imitator—in the sense of a political decoy—within the royal castle of Camelot . In other words, one of the candidates to replace the king after his defeat. Gawain was the wielder of Excalibur 's sister sword , Excalibur Galatine . However, due to his blind devotion to Arthur, he remained unaware of his agony. A loyal knight like Sir Bedivere , who cared for the king in his final moments, but unlike his companion, who desired his lord's happiness, he longed for his own flourishing as king. Regardless of the assessment and intentions of those around him, Gawain remained his right-hand man until the end.
He never belittled his enemies, and needless to say, he never insulted them. Gawain faced each and every one with courtesy, maintaining his fighting spirit and resolve even when the opponent lacked the ability to challenge him. Remaining in the king's shadow, he would gallantly advance onto the battlefield once given the order and triumph with a refreshing smile; it is no wonder, then, that he was described as the ideal knight. His greatest regret, however, was his feud with Sir Lancelot . While Lancelot was his equal, they were also incompatible, and he became unable to forget that Lancelot had murdered his brothers, Gareth and Gaheris . With a pure heart, he was an exemplary young warrior, and as such, his affection for his family was greater than most.
King Arthur forgave Lancelot because "he was to blame for everything," but Gawain never forgave his betrayal and remained hostile toward him until the end. This resentment not only cost him his knighthood but even played a role in the king's downfall. Gawain continued to reject Lancelot when he attempted to participate in the Battle of Camlann after being excommunicated, and this ultimately led to the deaths of both the king and himself.
During King Arthur's final battle at Camlann, Gawain died after being struck by Mordred in an old wound inflicted by Lancelot. Just as King Arthur berated himself on Camlann, Gawain wept on his deathbed. His passion had led to the king's downfall, and he lamented that his resentment had brought about his demise, while also accepting that his enmity toward Lancelot and Lancelot's disloyalty had been a consequence of his own lack of virtue. Although he ultimately did not aid the king in the legend, his loyalty was genuine.
And so, Gawain was brought back as a heroic spirit , and from this outcome, he seems to perceive that "being of service to the king" is his absolute mission. Now free of any doubt, Sir Gawain reclaimed his own persona as the Knight of the Sun (太陽の騎士, Taiyō no Kishi ) . Having become a Servant while holding a vow in his heart to atone for the mistakes of his past life, he serves his Master as an even more perfect "knight." All for the sake of becoming the cornerstone of a solitary king.
