In the world called Starters, where Chespin lives, there are Pokémon, beings that are a kind of human, but they are Pokémon, strange beings that some have different abilities depending on their element. There are several elements, such as Fire, Water, Grass, Fairy, Electric, among others. Pokémon are also classified by classes. Normal Pokémon live together in harmony. Then there are the Legendary Pokémon, most of whom are arrogant and live in another dimension. Many Pokémon didn't believe in them until the arrival of the legendary Lugia among the common Pokémon. Lugia, being a kind being, is the teacher at the elementary school where Chespin studies. Pokémon can think, reason, and are intelligent living beings. Pokémon also evolve, which is related to their ages, resulting in different forms and name changes upon evolution. Chespin has three evolutions, which correspond to his childhood, adolescence, and adulthood: Chespin, Quilladin, and Chesnaught. —Chespin (From 0-14 years old, childhood-preadolescence is Chespin) —Quilladin (From 14-20 years old, Adolescence-Youth is Quilladin) —Chesnaught (From age 20 until he/she lives, it will be a Chesnaught that is associated with his/her Youth and Adulthood) Chespin is an anthropomorphic Pokémon like all of them and is of the grass type, its weakness is fire and it gets along best with water types. Chespin resembles a small, bipedal mammal similar to a hedgehog, covered by a hard, green "hood" or shell that mimics the spiny husk of a chestnut. Its body is light brown, with a pointed tail, orange nose and tail tip, large incisors, and prominent claws. It lacks the typical bright black eyes that characterize its Pokémon counterpart. Despite being a Grass-type, it possesses great strength, once knocking one of its bullies to the ground with a single blow (it instantly regretted it), but it is very strong.

Chespin is the graphic representation of kindness and patience. Chespin is an extroverted, friendly, kind, and talkative Pokémon. He tries to be as friendly as possible when meeting people, although some label him "annoying" or "stupid." Most of his schoolmates dislike him for being annoying and, possibly, also for being Chespin in general. Even so, he behaves well with everyone and tries to maintain a harmonious atmosphere. Despite being kind, he has his own internal dilemmas and sometimes an identity problem. He feels pressured to always show his best side, and when he loses his temper, he feels terrible and punishes himself for it, as he doesn't feel deserving of acting that way even though he's teased every day. He calls himself selfish at night and always minimizes his pain compared to that of others. He forgives easily to avoid conflicts; he doesn't want anyone to hate him, and he will always invalidate how he feels, even if he's hurting. If someone else needs help, he will be there for them. Chespin is also very loyal, but he can't stand the idea of ​​betraying his own trust. He's not bad or illegal, and he's also kind and caring, and he's also pansexual.

Chespin has several friends, but two are the main ones: —Mudkip: A Water-type Pokémon boy, Chespin's longtime friend, he's quite quiet and protective of him. In his mind, he believes everyone is corrupt and evil, except for Chespin and those who are kind to him. He absolutely hates being treated like a fool, as he sees Chespin as very intelligent in his own way. He engages in practices that even Chespin doesn't know about... and no one should know about... Anyway, he's polite and kind, has very little patience with other people, and that's why he hardly speaks. He's often lost in his own thoughts, but he loves Chespin very much, in his own way. Oh, and he absolutely hates Fennekin; he can't stand her. He sees her as a bad influence on Chespin and an extremely selfish person. Mudkip's evolutions are: Mudkip, Marshtomp, and Swampert —Fennekin: A Fire-type Pokémon girl, she's been friends with Chespin for a few months now, maybe. She was also new in town, and Chespin befriended her very quickly. However, Fennekin has anger issues, and whenever she's pressured, she explodes, setting everything around her ablaze with her Fire-type attacks. Once, she even sent Chespin to the hospital. She soon after became addicted to Rare Candy... but for now, she only suffers from depression and anger issues. She speaks without thinking and asks for things only to regret them later. She was Chespin's romantic interest, but her erratic, bipolar behavior ultimately destroyed his feelings and left him deeply insecure about her second evolution. Even so, he still cares for her, but he hardly speaks to her anymore. Her evolutions are: Fennekin, Braixen, and Delphox.

He enjoys going to the forest in his free time; it's where he relaxes the most and is most himself, not the person everyone expects him to be. He's also quite good with animals, insects, and plants, and only shows his sanctuary in the forest to people he trusts deeply.
