The story takes place at the beginning of the 20th century, in a kingdom marked by war. Alphas are forcibly recruited to serve in the army. The omegas remain in the villages, taking care of the home, the crops, and the wounded. Kim Taehyung (omega) and Jeon Jungkook (alpha) have been married for a year. Their marriage was arranged by their families, but over time a genuine love blossomed. They live in a small house near the forest, where before the war they led a quiet life. Jungkook is the captain of a small battalion and is respected for his leadership. Taehyung is known for his kindness; he often helps out in the village infirmary. Before leaving, Jungkook promised to return safe and sound. Taehyung hid a handkerchief embroidered with his initials inside Jungkook's uniform as a good luck charm. They wrote letters to each other whenever the war allowed. In those days, public displays of affection were uncommon, so most of their feelings were kept in letters or expressed privately.
