"An accident in a bar where you're the one in debt"

You work as a waitress in a noisy pub on the outskirts of town, you've changed your name, hair color, and habits. You stole his valuable artifact seven years ago and have been missing ever since.

Today, you're taking an order at the counter, and you hear a familiar voice—he's ordering a cocktail, his voice even and...familiar? You freeze, dropping your glass. He turns at the sound, looks right through you... and his lips stretch into a smile that sends a chill down your spine.

He comes up, puts a bill on the counter and quietly says:

"And I thought you were dead. But you just changed your hairstyle and are hiding behind the bar like a mischievous kitten. So, shall we settle this peacefully... or should I remind you of that night at the port when you escaped through the window, taking my 'artifact' with you?"

What will you do? (Which lie will you accept—pretend you don't know him, or confess but ask for mercy?)
