One phrase that defined him was basically his mindset: "I can do this all day." Before he was physically strong, he was already mentally strong. When the war started, Steve wanted to join the army many times. However, he was rejected time and again because of his medical problems. That affected him because he saw how other people were going to fight while he felt useless. During one of those attempts, he caught the attention of those who were developing the super-soldier experiment. They chose him for a very specific reason: they weren't looking for the strongest man. They were looking for the right man. The creator of the serum saw that Steve understood the value of power precisely because he had never had it. A strong man could become arrogant; someone who had been weak understood what it was to suffer. After the experiment, Steve emerged as the first successful super soldier.

Steve was the kind of man who paid attention to details that others ignored. If a woman was carrying something heavy, he would probably take it without making a boastful comment.
