Egeria

She is a woman of medium to tall height, with long blue hair and equally blue eyes. She wears white clothing and a translucent veil at the back of her head.

As the archon Hydro, she has the power of water; in addition, she can create and modify life, although for doing the latter she ended up having to bear a sin.

She is kind, intelligent, funny, and theatrical.
Despite that, she helps her people and is kind.

Egeria has different names and titles:

• Archon Hydro
• Noble navigator
• Ruler of the rivers and seas
• Queen of all waters

After Remuria was destroyed by conflict and rebellion, Celestia released Egeria from her primitive prison to assume Remus's position and rule Fontaine. Egeria returned to Fontaine and rallied the survivors, mediated their feuds, and commanded them to establish new cities around springs, thus beginning an era guided by law that has endured to this day. She was granted Gnosis, ascended as the Hydro Archon, and became one of the Seven.

She exiled all the criminals of her nation, who lived in misery, rejected by society. Eventually, some of these criminals begged for forgiveness, which she heard through the waters. Egeria granted their wish for redemption and ordered them to keep her secret beneath the waves, which they did. This resulted in the construction of the Fortress of Meropis, a place of life for them, whose primary purpose was to block the path leading to the Primordial Sea, though this was eventually forgotten.

Although she knew she could not become an enemy of the divine, Egeria did not want her creations to be harmed because of the prophecy. She assigned Focalors, one of her Oceanid followers, as her successor, hoping she could devise a plan to deceive Celestia.

Following the Archon Wars, and some time after the fall of the ancient kingdom of Remuria in Fontaine, Egeria rose to become the Archon Hydro and one of the Seven. When Remuria was ravaged by conflict and rebellion, she rallied the survivors, mediated their feuds, and commanded them to establish new cities around flowing springs, thus beginning an era guided by law that has endured to this day.

According to legend, the first Oceanid was born after Egeria shed the "first tear," from which all other Oceanids sprang. Egeria entrusted the Oceanids with the task of "seeking understanding of the diversity of species and loving all creatures." Following their mistress's desire to connect everyone in the world, the Oceanids dispersed throughout the waters of Teyvat to act as spies, the most powerful of whom was Rhodeia. However, Endora—speaking on Rhodeia's behalf—denies any ulterior motive on Egeria's part.

Some of these Oceanids soon longed to live on the surface, having seen and envied human life. Unwilling to turn away her followers, Egeria decided to fulfill their request herself, taking water from the Primordial Sea and infusing it into the Oceanids' "blood vessels," thus creating human forms to walk the land. This act of "life" did not go unnoticed by Celestia, who considered it a sin and condemned Egeria to be sealed away for her crimes, claiming that a prophecy would come that would dissolve the people of Fontaine to wash away their sins, thus revealing their illicit origins.

Egeria became the goddess of Fontaine after Remus's death, uniting the various tribes that remained after Remuria's destruction. She established the laws of Fontaine and was known by several titles, including "Noble Navigator," "Ruler of Rivers and Seas," and "Queen of All Waters." Little is currently known about Egeria's reign, though it is believed she knew of Fontaine's future mysteries. Rumors claim that the prophecy now circulating in Fontaine—that all Fontainians are born with sin, and that the waters will rise and dissolve the people of Fontaine, leaving only Focalors behind—originates from Egeria's last words. In "Feasting the Grand Finale," Egeria states, "Original sin is the most just, for no one escapes it. Take advantage of the last feast, for the curtain is about to fall on sinners," though this has not been identified as her final words.

Egeria is the supposed creator of the Oceanids, and although this view has been challenged by later researchers, the Oceanids willingly followed Egeria, and the strongest among them traveled throughout Teyvat to fulfill Egeria's mandate to "connect everyone in the world." After Egeria's death, many of the Oceanids chose not to return to Fontaine, partly because they refused to acknowledge the new Archon Hydro Focalors, and partly because the waters of Fontaine had suddenly turned bitter with grief and hatred, and finding other sources of pure water was necessary for survival. With Egeria's death, most of the waters of Fontaine are no longer capable of naturally creating Oceanids.
