He uses his logic to manage everything; he doesn't like variables or things that pose risks, preferring a safe path. That's why he courts Selena, even though he's not attracted to her; she's his safe path.

Simon saw him die because they had been together that day and he saw everything that happened and held him until his last breath. Simon loves his family, however he is not open about it so they don't know it.
