A bit of history Odawara was once a common policeman's paper lantern (chochin) during the Edo period (around 1700). It became a yokai after the souls of criminals entered the lantern.

She began gathering the souls of deceased hospital patients into a single body so she could meet her beloved Rensuke Nyudo again and apologize to him.

She was taken in and cared for by Akira Takahashi (the same brother of Kurai Takahashi): he helped place her spirit in a human body and effectively became her protector.

As a gashadokuro, Kuniko is connected to bones and souls—her power is tied to the accumulated souls of her patients. She's a diligent student, but her past and motivations strongly influence her actions: she values ​​atonement and being by Rensuke's side.

Yokai type: dorotabou - a yokai associated with mud and swamps.

Age: 16 years.

Kotaro has reddish-brown hair (part of it pulled back into a ponytail) and wears an eyepatch over his left eye—he has no eye on that side of his face. Another detail: he only has three fingers on each hand; the rest are made of mud. He usually wears his school uniform, his shirts unbuttoned, and gloves.

At first, Kotaro is hostile to people—in particular, to his teacher, Haruaki Abe—because he dislikes them because of his history with his sister's husband. But later, he becomes friendlier. He's cheerful, loves to tease his friends, and can be overly curious.

He is close friends with Beniko Zashiki (they are neighbors and have known each other since childhood) and Rensuke Nyudo (although he often argues with him).

Capabilities As a dorotabō, Kotaro can transform into mud, create it, use it to capture opponents, or throw mud projectiles.

Youkai, a student at the Youkai School Yuta is a kudan-type yokai. Kudan have the ability to predict bad events, various disasters, and catastrophes. Yuta's ability manifests itself as sudden "visions" or premonitions: he suddenly blurts out a dark prophecy, and those around him are frightened and roll their eyes. He doesn't control these predictions—they come naturally, and Yuta often suffers from this: he doesn't like scaring his friends and teacher. Yuta has dark brown hair, slightly tousled, as if he's always in a hurry or has just woken up. His eyes are dark gray, and his gaze is often "clouded"—as if he's seeing a scene from a vision. He's about 174 cm tall. In his school uniform, he looks like an ordinary high school student, but his "absent" facial expressions and habit of freezing mid-sentence always make him seem almost otherworldly. Yuta is a calm, even slightly melancholic guy. He doesn't seek the spotlight or generally keep to himself, lest he accidentally scare anyone with his prophecies. At the same time, he's very empathetic: if one of his classmates is worried, Yuta will sit quietly next to them and be there without intruding. He's genuinely worried about his ability, and sometimes gets angry about it, but he never takes it out on others. In class, his predictions are treated differently: someone (Mamekichi) makes fun of him, someone (Daisy) tries to scientifically “study” the phenomenon, and someone (Yanagida) just sighs and says, “Well, again.” But at the same time, everyone ultimately understands that Yuta doesn’t want anyone to be hurt, and they accept him. With Daisy, he has almost a scientific duet: she writes down his predictions, tries to find patterns, he doesn’t object, he’s even pleased that someone perceives his gift not as a curse, but as a phenomenon that can be understood. His relationship with Haruaki is touching: the teacher was scared at first, then tried not to show it, and then began to treat Yuta with care, wants to protect him from other people’s laughter, and himself. With Tamao Akisame, there’s a contrast: Tamao is impulsive, “first I do, then I think Yuta is quiet, cautious, “it’s better to keep quiet so as not to provoke trouble” - this is supplemented by: Tamao drags Yuta into events, Yuta tries to stop his friend.

Tamao is a nekomata (two-tailed cat) yōkai. Because of this, he has feline traits: he can manifest ears and tails, and under strong emotions or when he loses control, his form can change more dramatically. However, he is not a "wild" yōkai: he tries to act like a normal schoolboy and hide his nature whenever possible.

Tamao has light-blond hair with a reddish tint (the right side appears tinted red), gray or bluish eyes, and is approximately 185 cm tall—one of the tallest in his class. He wears a school uniform, but often leaves the jacket unbuttoned, with a T-shirt with various slogans underneath (in the anime, this is incorporated into his look). He also has a distinctive feature: a red choker, which emphasizes his feline side.

Tamao is a prime example of the "strong but not very smart" guy: he's incredibly energetic, straightforward, and the first to jump into any mess, but often doesn't fully understand what's going on. He can act first and then ask, "What even happened?" Despite all this bravado, he's incredibly loyal: he genuinely tries to protect his friends and even Haruaki, although his attempts to "help" sometimes only complicate matters. He also has a funny side: he adores little gifts (especially soft ones or ones with cats) and greatly appreciates simple attention. For example, when Daisy simply brings him cookies, he becomes genuinely happy and then tries to repay her in some way.

He and Akibe have a “cat duet”: they understand each other on an instinctive level, but at the same time they constantly compete to see which of them is “more of a cat.”

Tamao and Nyudo have an almost brotherly relationship: they are best friends, constantly teasing each other, but in serious situations they have each other's backs.

The relationship with Haruaki is built on contrasts: the teacher is constantly nervous, and Tamao sincerely wants to “protect” him, which leads to many comical scenes.

Daisy isn't a typical yokai, but a creature from the biology club: she was "created" as part of a school experiment, so she stands a bit apart from the rest of the students. She doesn't have a classic mythological prototype—her nature is closer to that of an artificially bred magical creature. Because of this, she sometimes feels "different," but tries not to show it.

Daisy has light, almost white hair, pulled back into two loose ponytails, and large, soft gray-green eyes. She's approximately 155–157 cm tall. In her school uniform, she looks very childish, and her cute appearance belies the seriousness with which she approaches her studies and her "peculiarities." She also often carries a small notebook, where she jots down observations of her classmates and herself.

Daisy is quiet, diligent, and very inquisitive. She views the world as a grand experiment: she tries everything, writes everything down, and analyzes everything. She's not cold, though—she's simply used to thinking before acting. Being helpful is important to her, and she tries to help where she can: for example, she'll give Haruaki advice on how best to approach a difficult yokai because she loves observing the reactions of people and creatures. She's a bit shy and doesn't immediately open up to new people, but if someone shows genuine interest in her (like Tamao Akisame, who simply brings her cookies and asks for nothing in return), Daisy quickly becomes attached. She has a warm, almost sisterly relationship with Akibe: Akibe stirs her emotions, and Daisy helps Akibe think a little more before rushing into adventures.

Akibe is a bakeneko-type yokai (a cat transformed into a yokai). She can partially assume feline features, such as growing ears and a tail, and in extreme cases, she can even transform more deeply. However, she retains her humanity and tries not to frighten others with her sudden transformations.

Akibe has short dark brown hair and large, expressive amber eyes; she's approximately 158–160 cm tall. In her school uniform, she looks like a typical high school student, but details reveal her nature: she often wears cat-themed accessories, and when she's excited or happy, her ears and tail appear.

Akibe is very energetic and emotional, but she also genuinely tries to be helpful. She's quick to come up with ideas and can be the first to rush in and help, only wondering if she has the strength to do so later. Her impulsiveness often gets her into awkward situations, but she never stays angry for long and always apologizes if she's offended. She has a particularly warm relationship with Yagoru Oota: they often cross paths at sporting events, and he, as the "big and reliable one," often covers for her when she gets too carried away. She and Yakumo Mujina have more of a playful rivalry: he intimidates her, she hisses back—and they both consider it normal communication.

Akibe also loves everything soft and fluffy, so in class she can often be found where there are blankets, pillows, or even just someone who doesn't mind being patted on the shoulder (in the anime, this is presented as her "cat" habit and is done very cutely).

Yakumo is a nopperapon (faceless spirit) type yokai. His main ability is to remove his own face to scare people. However, in the anime, this is played less as a terrifying threat than as a mischievous prank: he likes to play pranks on his classmates and even his teacher by suddenly "erasing" his facial features.

There's a nuance with his name and image: despite his surname being "Mujina" (a mujina is a type of yokai, sometimes identified with a badger), his abilities are those of a nopperapon, not a classic mujina.

Yakumo has black hair, but a skirmish with anti-youkai forces left it in a thick afro—so he decided to keep it. He's approximately 178 cm tall. He wears the standard school uniform, but his hairstyle and demeanor make him look like the most casual guy in his class. Yakumo is a typical prankster: he enjoys playing pranks, especially scaring those who get easily flustered (especially Haruaki). He's not malicious, though: if a prank goes too far, he's willing to apologize and help make things right. He loves cats, but has a long-distance relationship with Tamao Akisame—they tolerate each other, but aren't friends. He often teases Nyudo, though Nyudo regularly reprimands him.

Yasutomi is a kappa-type yokai. As befits a kappa, his abilities are related to water: he is an excellent swimmer, can stay underwater for long periods, and even manipulate small streams of liquid. However, he tries not to overuse his powers at school, primarily using them in the pool and during gym class.

Yasutomi has dark hair, parted slightly to the side, and a calm gaze. He's approximately 170 cm tall. In his school uniform, he looks like an ordinary guy, but he has one distinctive detail: he often carries a small flask or bottle of water—both a habit and a kind of "boost" for his abilities. Yasutomi is one of the most level-headed and reasonable in his class. He doesn't like unnecessary noise and doesn't seek the spotlight, but if a classmate is in trouble, he'll be the first to offer help. He has a good sense of humor, but his jokes are gentle, without being sarcastic. His relationship with Haruaki is respectful but informal: he can calmly advise the teacher on the best way to approach a yokai if he sees them nervous. Another trait is that he takes rules and safety very seriously, especially when it comes to water. For example, at school events, he almost always ends up where a "safety guard" is needed: at the pool, at the boat dock, or simply making sure no one slips.

Yamato is an uwabami-type yokai (giant snake). In his true form, he transforms into a massive snake, but at school, he maintains his human form to avoid frightening others and to study properly.

Appearance Yamato has a rather athletic, toned figure, emphasizing his connection to physical activity. He's approximately 175–178 cm tall. In the anime, he has dark hair and a calm, confident gaze; in his school uniform, he looks like a typical "strong but not aggressive" guy. Yamato is calm and reliable, the kind of guy who doesn't push himself but is always willing to lend a shoulder to cry on. He dislikes unnecessary drama and prefers to solve problems with action rather than words. He also has a sense of humor: he can make subtle jokes, but never crosses the line and doesn't mean to offend anyone.

He is closely involved with sports: he plays on a basketball team and generally gravitates towards active pursuits—this fits well with his Uwabami nature, where strength and endurance play a major role.

Kou is a yokai associated with the thunder deity (Raijin). He was once a sort of divine being himself, but now lives the life of an ordinary schoolboy. His abilities are somehow tied to electricity and thunderstorms: he can generate discharges, control lightning, and sense "tension" in the air—including the emotional tension in a group of people.

Kou appears cold and withdrawn, but this is more a habit of maintaining distance due to his strength: he fears accidentally hurting others if his emotions get out of control. He dislikes the spotlight, preferring to observe and intervene only when truly necessary. At the same time, he is extremely loyal to those he considers friends and is willing to risk his life to protect them.

An important detail: Kou is Rin Ogata's twin brother, and their connection greatly influences his behavior. Around his sister, he becomes softer and calmer, as if her presence helps him keep his "thunderstorm" power under control.

Yokai

Yagoru is a daidarabocchi-type yokai, meaning giant. His true form is a colossal giant, approximately 130 meters tall: he's so enormous that the school comes up to his knees and he can hold his classmates in the palm of his hand. However, Yagoru can shrink down to human size (approximately 160 cm) so he can study properly and avoid frightening others.

In human form, Yagoru has light-colored hair (as if dyed) and bright red eyes. In his giant form, he looks like a colossal man—powerful, imposing, but without being overly monstrous: there's nothing overtly intimidating about him, rather, one senses scale and strength.

Yagoru is a "gentle giant": he's very friendly, optimistic, and cheerful. He loves sports, especially baseball, and often acts as if he wants to help everyone and not hurt anyone. He's also not above making fun of his size or using it to help his friends—for example, lifting someone up so they can see something. He's okay with Haruaki being human and doesn't try to bully him, unlike some other youkai. Another amusing detail: Yagoru isn't thrilled about having to wear the school uniform if the class loses at the sports festival, and is even willing to cheat a little by using his giant uniform to avoid it.

Relationships with others He has a particularly close relationship with Akibe: they're often seen together, for example, at baseball games. He also helps Mikoto Sano during physical training, for example, letting him lean on his head to help him cope with challenges.

Yanagida is a tsukumogami-type yokai. These are spirits that inhabit old objects, and in his case, his connection to "material" nature is reflected in his personality and behavior: he often acts as if he's "worn out" or "broken," and enjoys dramatizing and complaining about "breakdowns" and "fatigue," as if he were not a person but an old machine.

Yanagida has a subtle yet memorable "tired" presence: he looks like a typical high school student, but with his shoulders perpetually slumped and a look on his face that suggests he struggles to keep his back straight. He's approximately 170–172 cm tall. In the anime, his appearance is deliberately blurred in a crowd to emphasize that he prefers to remain unnoticed while still being observant. Yanagida is a typical "quiet observer" who prefers to keep to himself, yet knows everything about everyone. He often grumbles, likes to complain about life and sigh dramatically, but in a critical moment, he's the first to notice important details and help the team. He has a unique sense of humor: his jokes are dry, with almost no intonation, which sometimes makes them sound darker than intended. Despite his "tiredness," he genuinely cares for his classmates and tries to help without drawing undue attention to himself.

Natsumi is a futakuchi-onna (two-mouthed woman) type of yokai. Her signature trait is a second mouth on the back of her head: it's not just decorative, but quite distinct and even has its own personality. This mouth can offer suggestions, comment, and sometimes even downright sarcasm, which often gets Natsumi into awkward situations. Natsumi has pink hair and brownish-red eyes, and is approximately 163 cm tall. She typically looks like an ordinary high school girl, but it's precisely because of her "secret" mouth that she has to carefully design her hairstyle and accessories to hide it. In the anime, this is played up comedically: she sometimes hides the back of her head, then suddenly forgets all caution, causing her second mouth to blurt out something abrupt. On the outside, Natsumi appears calm and polite, trying to maintain a dignified demeanor and avoid attracting unnecessary attention. But her second mouth constantly undermines her image as the "perfect student": the back mouth doesn't mince words, and loves to tease her classmates and even the teacher. At the same time, Natsumi genuinely tries to control the situation and becomes very upset when one of her friends gets into trouble. Her inner struggle between her desire to be normal and her inability to hide her true nature is one of the most touching aspects of her character.

Beniko is a zashiki-warashi-type yokai. These are spirits that inhabit houses and bring good luck (and sometimes misfortune) to their owners. In Beniko's case, her association with good and bad luck is directly related to what she wears: for example, wearing red clothes makes her a harbinger of bad luck—and she deliberately wears a red hoodie to tease Haruaki.

Beniko has long, sleek black hair (length to her knees), gray eyes, and is approximately 168 cm tall. At school, she wears the standard navy-themed uniform, but wears a red hoodie over it and sweatpants under her skirt. She often wears her hair in two pigtails or a ponytail. She also wears glasses.

Beniko is a typical "hermit with a personality": she spends most of her time at home playing video games and is less than enthusiastic about school. However, she's highly competitive and enjoys teasing others, especially Haruaki: she enjoys putting him in awkward situations and watching him lose his cool. Despite her apparent aloofness, Beniko genuinely cares for her friends and her family—her adoptive parents run an inn, and it's important to her that they do well.

Mamekichi is a mamedanuki-type yokai (a type of tanuki). His abilities revolve around transformation: he can change shape, for example, becoming a cheetah, a muscular man, or even slime. He uses a clever trick to transform: he pulls a grocery bag over his head. When his spiritual energy runs out (for example, due to the effects of anti-yokai forces), he involuntarily assumes his true form—a raccoon dog (tanuki).

He's a short guy (around 135 cm tall) with spiky black hair and large blue eyes. In anime, he's often drawn with deliberately "toy-like" proportions—as if he's almost half the size of others, which emphasizes his comical appearance. Mamekichi is very cheerful and friendly, but also noticeably materialistic: he adores gifts and rejoices in every souvenir. Despite his spontaneity, he genuinely cares for his friends and is willing to protect them—for example, he actively "drives away" girls who try to get close to his best friend, Mikoto Sano. He has a warm, playful relationship with his teacher, Haruaki: Mamekichi loves to joke around and engage the teacher in awkward situations, but it's his energy that helps Haruaki adjust to the unusual school.

In his Hyakki Academy school uniform, he looks like a typical teenager, but occasionally small supernatural features (a slight shimmer, barely noticeable shadows around) appear to remind the viewer that he is not human.

Taiti is the guy who's always "in the know": he's the first to jump into a prank, but rarely the one instigating it. He's sociable, energetic, and enjoys being part of a group. He's not mean, though: if a prank goes too far, he's the first to say, "Okay, enough," and smooth things over a bit. In quieter moments, he's quite down-to-earth and practical—when he's stressed about a test, for example, or just wants a proper meal.

senses sudden changes in lighting and reacts "warily" to sudden darkness - this works both as a weakness and as intuition.

Taichi is most often seen among his classmates, supporting the ideas of the more active students and sometimes becoming their "helper" in their endeavors. He doesn't clash with Haruaki, but rather treats him with curiosity: for Taichi, the teacher is a playful enigma, one he wants to test.

Details: Clothing and accessories feature motifs of wings and patterns similar to those on butterfly wings.

In her Hyakki Academy school uniform, she looks graceful, but with a distinctly "inhuman" aesthetic.

Ageha gives the impression of being light and airy, as if everything she does is playful. She enjoys attention and compliments, and sometimes acts flirtatiously, but without any real malice. In class, she often plays pranks on her teacher, Haruaki Abe—not as the ringleader, but as someone who readily takes up an idea and adds a touch of "beauty" to it. At the same time, in quiet moments, she displays a keen sense of observation: she notices others' emotions and sometimes, in her own way, supports those who are shy or nervous.

As a butterfly yokai, Ageha can:

create illusions from shimmering particles similar to pollen - they confuse and briefly disorient;

control light currents of air to move smoothly or dodge;

leaving "imprints" in the form of translucent wings - this can be both a mark and a way to transmit a short signal to other yokai.

Ranmaru is a yokai, a karasu tengu (crow tengu), and the captain of the karasu tengu troupe. He was once a deity—one of the Four Gods summoned by Abe no Seimei to protect Kyoto (in that form, Ranmaru acted as Suzaku, the Phoenix of the South). But because of his sin (killing a human), he was cast down and became a tengu.

Hair: Dark purple, short and slightly tousled, with longer strands in the front.

Eyes: red.

Height: 178 cm.

Image: Most often seen in a white and red yukata with a long blue sash and yellow fur trim; wears a black mask with red patterns, stylized as a raven. In informal settings, he wears a simple black tracksuit, sans mask.

On the surface, Ranmaru is a frivolous and cunning individual: he loves to joke, tease others, and maintains a relaxed demeanor even in serious matters. He is obsessed with money and is willing to take various risks to obtain it (even resorting to dubious pranks). He enjoys gambling, which keeps him constantly in debt. However, behind this seemingly carefree exterior lies a more complex nature, with painful memories of the past and complex feelings for those with whom he was bound by old vows and service.

As a karasu tengu, Ranmaru can:

call upon the great raven wings and fly;

turn into a large raven;

use the connection with the crows for reconnaissance.

There's also a special quirk: to summon Ranmaru to your aid, you need to sacrifice a 1,000 yen bill—he literally demands a fee for participation. The karasu tengu troupe: he's its captain, responsible for his men and the squad's reputation.

The school principal: They have a "friends-rivals" relationship—they constantly tease each other, but they can also team up when the going gets tough. They even share a "secret" that they both promise to take to their graves.

Abe no Seimei: In the past, Ranmaru respected him as an onmyōji, but over time, bitterness and alienation developed in his relationship with Seimei. Akira Takahashi: When Akira was a student at Hyakki Academy, Ranmaru was his teacher and was remembered by the student for his eccentricities.

Bommaru is a yokai, a karasu tengu (crow tengu). He currently holds the position of lieutenant in the karasu tengu troupe. He was once human but became a yokai.

Style: He usually wears a formal black business suit with a white shirt and black tie—this makes his students consider him "cool." He maintains a distance due to his status and professional role, but is not without kindness. Stern and collected, he acts like a responsible commander. When interacting with those close to him (such as Tenmaru), he can be a little softer—he's even called "Bon-san." As a karasu tengu, Bommaru possesses the abilities typical of this type of yōkai:

can control crows or see through them;

Possesses enhanced agility and combat skills suitable for the role of lieutenant. Karasu Tengu Troupe: Serves as a lieutenant, responsible for maintaining order and carrying out assignments.

Tenmaru: He calls him "Bon-san", which hints at the trusting relationship within the squad.

A Man, a Dead Mother, and Hajime Nyudo's Wife

Renka's pregnancy with a yokai was extremely difficult and severely damaged her health. After Rensuke's birth, she spent several years in the hospital and then died. Her fate greatly impacted the relationships within the Nyudo family:

In Rensuke's case, he blames himself for her suffering and death: he believes that the very fact of his birth as a yokai was the cause of the tragedy. Because of this, he has many internal struggles and a desire to "become better" to somehow justify his existence. In Hajime's case, the loss of Renka has made him harsh and overprotective: he wants to protect his son from danger and pain at any cost, which often leads him to act overbearingly and not listen to Rensuke himself.

Important connections Hajime Nyudo - husband.

Rensuke Nyudo is the son; her memory and feelings of guilt towards her are an important part of Rensuke's motivation.

Yokai Hajime is a hitotsume-kozo (one-eyed creature) yokai and an influential political figure in the yokai world. He is the father of Rensuke Nyudo, a student at Hyakki Academy. Hajime comes across as a cold and domineering man: those around him fear him and obey him unquestioningly. He acts based on his own ideas about "protection" and his son's well-being, with little regard for Rensuke's own wishes. For example, he wanted to remove his son from Hyakki Academy to protect him from danger and the influence of his teacher, Haruaki Abe. Over time, seeing Rensuke mature and show independence, Hajime gradually strives to become a more involved father, including attending Parental Observation Day with Kurai Takahashi and the maid.

As a hitotsume-kozo, Hajime possesses abilities related to his single eye: he can see spiritual energy and perceive things hidden from the naked eye. His status and power are bolstered not only by his personal abilities but also by his political influence among the yokai. Rensuke Nyudo is his son; the relationship is complex but gradually warms.

Kurai Takahashi - works for the Nyudo family, accompanies Hajime and helps carry out errands.

Yokai Kurai is not a teacher, but a graduate of Hyakki Academy (a school for yokai). He currently serves in the Nyudo household and unquestioningly follows his master's orders. Hair: Dyed white (naturally dark brown).

Eyes: red.

Personality details: He wears round glasses, a black button-down shirt, and white pants; he sometimes hides a mole near his mouth with a mask. At first glance, he appears reserved and businesslike—he wants to get things done quickly. However, he can be rude and blunt. He gets very angry if his older brother, Akira Takahashi, is mentioned in his presence. He also has a reputation for being a womanizer—he openly enjoys having fun outside of work. Character On the one hand, he's extremely responsible and takes the law seriously: he's quick to arrest someone if he sees a potential threat (this regularly leads to comical conflicts with the main character, Haruaki Abe). On the other hand, he's kind and genuinely wants the students to be safe. Race: Kamaitachi - a yokai (mystical creature) in the form of a weasel with sharp sickles (scythes) instead of arms. Even in human form, Izuna can transform her forearms into sickles.

Appearance: Dark brown hair, red eyes, glasses (which sometimes leads to him being mistaken for a nerd). His signature detail is his long red scarf: his wife knitted it for him, and he wears it even in the heat. He often wears a white robe over his red striped shirt.

Character Izuna is an interesting mix: on the one hand, he tries to be a serious and strict teacher, easily irritated when students break rules or don't adhere to the dress code. But when angry, he quickly reverts to his former "hooligan" self. At the same time, he genuinely cares for his students: he's willing to risk himself to protect them. He's also quite fearless. However, he does have weaknesses: Izuna is very afraid of doctors (especially Dr. Takahashi).

History and connections

Izuna was once a troubled student. In high school, he befriended Rintaro Miki, who later became his colleague and brother-in-law (Izuna's wife's sister was Ibara Miki). It was the story of that childhood friendship (Izuna helped some kids who got lost at a school festival) that inspired him to become a teacher. Izuna now works closely with the principal and is considered his "right-hand man." He has a family: his wife, Ibara, daughter, Saki, son, Kamae, and youngest son, Taichi.

The main character of the main anime, a teacher at the "Youkai" school, is an evil spirit. His height is 188 cm.

Body and appearance

Haruaki is a tall and thin man. He has black hair with a distinctive, protruding lock (ahoge)—it can even fall out, but quickly grows back; red eyes; usually wears a white shirt, a red-and-black striped tie, and dark pants; and a rosary bracelet on his right wrist (used to contain his power).

Haruaki has a very vivid and contradictory image: he's cowardly and often panics. He's quick to hide behind a student's back or run away if the situation becomes too dangerous. Because of this, he's often teased and even "used" by other characters.

He sincerely wants to be a good teacher. Despite his cowardice, he works hard for his students and is willing to go to great lengths to help them—for example, he specifically researched everything about cats to make learning easier for one of his students.

An enthusiast and a bit of an "eccentric," he has a notable weakness: he's obsessed with sailor uniforms (specifically, the uniforms themselves, not the wearers). Other characters sometimes exploit this passion to goad him into certain actions.

Kind and good-natured. He rarely gets angry, and most often remains good-natured, although he sometimes behaves like a klutz or a crybaby.

Capable of decisive action. When it comes to the well-being of his students, Haruaki can pull himself together and act boldly, despite his fears.
