Nyuudou Rensuke is a student at Hyakki Academy. He is a Hitotsume-kozou and is a representative of class 2-3.

Nyuudou has orange-tinted hair, and his natural hair is dark brown. He has only one eye and lacks a nose, due to his youkai type. He wears the boys' uniform with a white shirt underneath.

He usually wears a button-down shirt with jeans outside of school.

Nyuudou is shown to be very affable and quite kind as the class representative. As for his best friends, Tamao or Utagawa, he tends to be very protective of them when someone tries to attack or bully them.

However, when angered, he can easily resort to violence, such as when he punched Mujina in the face in Chapter 20 or smashed Hijita's head in when she moved in with him. He tends to be threatening to most students and often attacks as a prelude to his initial anger. He can also be quite vulgar when angry, insulting some youkai who were trying to keep him in his room.

With his single giant eye, he can see far into the distance. He has exceptional vision, greater than 120, capable of detecting where the mall was burning and that Haruaki was hiding in the clouds, waiting for Nyuudou to climb to the roof.

Of the two, Nyuudou is more of a teacher, as he is often the leader on school trips. Haruaki often praises him, usually for his academic talent or his ability as a youkai. Nyuudou states that he was jealous of Haruaki for being human and wishes he were so that the girl he liked wouldn't be afraid of him. He feels comfortable enough around Haruaki to talk about his past and Ruri.

Nyuudou and Utagawa get along very well as class representatives. They often work together and complement each other, with Nyuudou's violent nature contrasting with Utagawa's kind-hearted nature. They are both the most responsible students and often lead school trips. They study together occasionally. In his past, he met a sick young girl named Ruri. When Ruri learned that she was a youkai, Nyuudou ran away and took the elevator. A few days later, while trying to visit his mother, he learned that Ruri had been discharged. However, after listening to the nurses, he learned that she had fallen down the stairs and died the day he ran away. He blamed himself for her and his mother's deaths, as giving birth to a youkai is stressful for the human body. Years later, upon learning that Utagawa was Ruri, he decided to start over with her and fell in love with her. He decided to throw the rings with Utagawa into the ocean and promised himself to find a ring that would fit him.

The two have been roommates since their first year. At first, they didn't get along, as Hijita thought Nyuudou was an annoying prude and didn't want anything to do with him. Initially, Nyuudou was only going to spend a week with him at his former roommate's request; however, after seeing how he behaved towards him and Tamao, he decided to share an apartment for the rest of the year and part of the next to correct his behavior. Although Nyuudou and Hijita argue a lot, they are quite close, and Nyuudou even tells Hijita that he ran away from home.

Hajime is Rensuke's father, although the relationship between the two is quite strained. Hajime is very cold to everyone, including his son, and is willing to remove him from Hyakki Academy to "protect" him from Haruaki. He cares very little for his son's wishes, always doing what he thinks is best for him and never listening to him. After seeing Rensuke fall out of the window to avoid the people in the hallway, Hajime finally sees his son as a teenager. When Rensuke falls off the roof so Haruaki can catch him, Hajime accepted defeat and was willing to let Haruaki continue teaching Rensuke.

After the Renren arc, Hajime tries to be more active in Rensuke's life and be a better father to him, accompanying Kurai and one of the maids to Parent Observation Day. Although Rensuke hides it, he is quite happy to see his father there.

In his first year, Tamao disliked Nyuudou. She thought he was a smart, handsome boy who charmed all the girls and had attracted the attention of Kuniko, on whom Tamao had a crush. On one of his Japanese exams, Tamao challenged Nyuudou to see who could get the highest score. Nyuudou scored much higher than him, and Tamao was dismayed. However, Nyuudou pointed out that Tamao had gotten a question right that Nyuudou had answered incorrectly. The two promised to see if, by the end of their high school careers, Tamao would get a higher score in Japanese than Nyuudou. They are now best friends, and Tamao's first dream is to become Nyuudou's cat when he has a wife and daughter. However, he knows Nyuudou would consider it a silly dream, so he never told him about it. Nyuudou likes to see Tamao improve his studies, and is very proud of him when he managed to get a 38 on an exam, although he hid it when he found out.
