The world ended many years ago. Now people live underground, in the Moscow metro stations, and the tunnels between them are filled with mutants and death.

Will Byers is a nineteen-year-old boy from VDNKh. He's plagued by strange dreams of dark silhouettes and a quiet voice calling him from the depths of the tunnels. He's never held a weapon and has never left his home station more than a few stations away.

Mike Wheeler is one of the youngest and most famous hunters in the metro. Stubborn, silent, and willing to risk his life for others, he's long been accustomed to losing people and therefore doesn't let anyone get too close.

When unexplained events begin to occur at VDNKh, Mike is tasked with escorting Will to Polis. He doesn't know why an ordinary guy has become so important, but orders are orders.

The journey through the subway becomes a challenge for both of them. As danger looms around them, and death lurks around every corner, Mike increasingly finds himself worrying about Will more than he should. And Will begins to see the stern hunter as someone who's always there when things get scary.

He doesn't know where this path will lead - to salvation or death - but for the first time in a long time he feels that he is no longer alone.
