As a young boy, he inherited his father's debts to the Yakuza. Upon meeting Pochita, he becomes a demon hunter for the Yakuza in an attempt to pay off his debt. When the Yakuza, under the control of a demon, betray him, he dies, and Pochita becomes his heart. He is then resurrected and can become Human Chainsaw by pulling the cord on his chest.

Denji is a fair-skinned teenager with tousled blond hair that sticks up and falls carelessly over his head. He has yellow-brown eyes with bags under them, giving him a dazed and tired expression. His teeth are noticeably sharp and angular. After Denji forms a contract with Pochita, his heart fuses with Pochita, a chainsaw cord forms in the center of his sternum, and he regenerates his lost organs, gaining a muscular, though still lean, physique.

If his cord is pulled while he has enough blood to transform, his head transforms into a demonic, mechanical form with long, jagged fangs and a chainsaw handle on the back of his head. Large chainsaws emerge from his forehead, arms, and legs, and he can retract or extend any of them at will. If Denji's cord is pulled while he doesn't have enough blood, the chainsaw blade partially emerges from his face.

Denji is both brash and naive, due to his lack of formal education and socialization due to living in extreme poverty, making him generally rude and vulgar. His personality appears harsh and harsh, almost childish. However, he has a well-developed sense of empathy for others and is willing to save those in danger as much as he can, showing that he is a kind-hearted person despite his flaws. While Denji isn't necessarily highly intelligent, he is capable of coming up with clever ideas for destroying demons.

Aki Hayakawa is an attractive young man with medium-length black hair and blue eyes. He usually wears his hair in a ponytail. He often wears a Public Safety Demon Hunter suit and a tie. He also wears earrings and usually carries his sword on his back.

Aki generally comes across as a very strong individual. While he appears mature and sometimes even rude when interacting with his fellow demon hunters, he is actually quite soft-hearted. He tends to become easily attached to others and hates to see people suffer, especially his close friends. Unlike many of his comrades, Himeno calls him a "normal person," meaning he still grieves for the dead and hasn't become so twisted as to hide his feelings. Despite this, he is very determined, and his primary motivation for killing the demon Firebolt is avenging his family. However, he is completely willing to sacrifice his own life to save others, despite his own fear of death and even at the risk of his ultimate goal.

He dislikes people who don't take their job as Demon Hunters seriously or fight for superficial and materialistic goals like money or, in Denji's case, the chance to touch boobs, which was the main reason why he and Denji didn't get along in the first place.

His cold detachment is a facade, and he cried over the deaths of his comrades like Himeno, and he grew to care for Denji and Power so much that he tried to give up his goal of revenge to keep them safe.

Aki is also capable of fearing the loss of those he holds dear. He told Kishiba that the reason he wanted to abandon the mission to kill the Firebolt Demon was because he had seen the future, through the power of the Future Demon, where Denji and Power suffered painful and horrific deaths, and he was terrified of that.

Power is a beautiful girl with long hair. Her long blonde hair reaches her lower back. As a half-demon, she has red and yellow eyes that form a crisscross pattern, sharp teeth with pronounced fangs, and light red horns protruding from the top of her head.

Power typically wears the standard shirt, tie, and trousers required of Public Safety Demon Hunters. She typically wears breast pads to enhance her bust size. She almost always wears her jacket half-off, giving her a sloppy, half-dressed look.

Power was formerly childish, greedy, and almost entirely self-serving. She was prone to fighting as if she had something to gain and was confident of victory, seeing no problem in running away from a fight in which she was weaker. She always felt the need to boast about her superiority over her fellow Demon Hunters due to her half-demon status. She had no loyalty to either humans or demons, openly admitting that she would join whichever side wins. Power also loved the thrill of combat and enjoyed showing off her strength and proving her superiority. When confronted by a swarm of zombies, she became agitated and told Denji to watch closely as she single-handedly wiped them all out. She was very selfish and often claimed to be capable of doing things she couldn't, only to give up mid-flight when the situation turned against her. She often shifted the consequences of her actions onto those around her.

After returning from Hell and witnessing the Dark Demon's power, Power develops severe PTSD, fearing being alone and feeling as if the Dark Demon will consume her. As a result, she requires Aki and Denji's help to care for her, helping her eat, bathe, and sleep, revealing a more vulnerable side. Since then, Power hasn't been her usual self and has become soft.
