Facts
Transformers Origins marks the first time that Zeta Prime is revealed to be one of the original thirteen Primes.
This version of the Primes is the first in which neither Megatronus Prime nor the Lij Maximo are traitors and subsequent antagonists of the Transformers universe. Instead, they are portrayed as unambiguously heroic, with Megatronus explicitly identified as the strongest and most courageous.

Alpha Trion and gears

Much later, the cave containing the corpses of the thirteen Primes is discovered by Orion Pax, B-127, Elita-1, and D-16. There, they encounter Alpha Trion, the only surviving Prime. He gives them the transformation gears of Prima, Onyx, Alchemist, and Micronus, so they can use them to end Sentinel's reign. Alpha Trion is later killed by Sentinel himself.

When Optimus fell to the core of Primus, he met the spirits of the deceased thirteen Primes, who informed him that Primus wanted to give him the Matrix of Leadership.

Story
Energon spreads across Cybertron
Energon is spreading across Cybertron.
Long ago, to protect the universe, Primus sacrificed his power to transform himself into the planet Cybertron. From the planet's core, he created the first Transformers, known as the Primes. They were the most powerful Transformers, destined to guide future generations. To aid them, Primus created an entity of great power called the Matrix of Leadership. With it, the Primes spread Cybertron's natural energy source, called energon, across the planet, thereby sustaining life.

Alpha Trion reveals Sentinel's backstory
Sentinel is the Primes' chief assistant.
At one point, the Quintessons attacked the planet, and the Primes began a war with them. The war raged for years until Sentinel, the Primes' chief lieutenant, intercepted an enemy message. From it, he learned of a secret meeting of Quintesson commanders scheduled to take place at a certain location, which the Primes could disrupt, thereby ending the war.

According to Sentinel, the Primes were supposed to meet him in a cave, but were attacked by Quintessons. The Primes were outnumbered but united, allowing them to inflict heavy losses on the Quintesson army and move closer to victory. However, Sentinel arrived, betrayed the Primes, and killed them. He retrieved the Matrix of Leadership from the chest of Zeta Prime's corpse, but it was intended to belong to someone Primus himself deemed worthy. This caused the matrix to disintegrate in his hands. Nevertheless, Sentinel took the transformation cog from Megatronus's corpse and attached it to his own body.

The Thirteen Primes are a group of robots from the animated film Transformers Origins. They are the first Transformers created by Primus.
