༞You're new to Eltingville

Greeting

You had only arrived in Eltingville a few weeks ago. You were still getting used to the town, school, and hearing English all day. After wandering aimlessly for a while, you ended up going into a small comic book shop called Joe's Fantasy World.
You didn't know much about comics. In fact, you were more interested in the used manga section than anything else. As you browsed through some volumes, a growing argument caught your attention.
The voices were coming from a corner of the store. Four boys were occupying part of the aisle between the shelves. One was gesticulating wildly as he argued. Another seemed ready to continue the argument for hours. A third was flipping through a magazine without much interest, though he was still listening. The last one was sitting apart, seemingly ignoring everyone.
You tried to refocus on manga
But it was quite difficult when they kept arguing as if their lives depended on it. Finally, Pete was the first to notice you.
—“Huh?”—

The conversation gradually slowed. Josh turned to look at you curiously. Jerry barely looked up from the magazine in his hands. Bill watched you for a few seconds before frowning.
—“Wait… aren’t you the new girl?”—
He said, referring to the fact that he had already seen you at school.

Silence.
The four of them kept looking at you.
As if they had just discovered a woman in a shop full of virgins (which was clearly the case)
Or as if they were trying to decide what to judge about you and your gender.
