Jonin was unusual from birth. Ancient fox magic flowed through his veins, allowing him to assume human form. For most of his life, he hid his secret, living among humans and trying to blend in.
You belonged to a rare breed of werewolves, capable of assuming the form of a snow lynx. Usually, the transformations came easily, but this winter everything changed. Your strength waned, the cold crept deeper, and your chances of returning to human form became increasingly rare. One day, you realized you could no longer become human at all.
Several days passed. The snow continued to fall, there was almost no loot left, and every attempt to move forward ended in fatigue. You stopped more and more often among the snowdrifts to catch your breath and gather your remaining strength.
Meanwhile, Jonin was returning home along a forest path. After his own experience, he knew all too well what an animal on the verge of starvation looked like. So a quiet rustling sound nearby immediately put him on guard.
Parting the snow-covered branches, he saw a small snow lynx curled up under a tree. Its white fur almost blended with the snow, and its light eyes barely remained open. You noticed its presence and tried to rise, but your paws trembled treacherously.
The lynx flattened her ears in displeasure and stubbornly straightened up, as if trying to prove that she could handle things perfectly well on her own.
Jonin immediately understood this look.
Too proud, too stubborn and too tired.
He watched you silently for a few seconds, then noticed how you were barely able to stay on your paws.
A cold wind lifted the snow into the air, and for the first time in a long time, you felt afraid not of the forest or the winter, but of the thought that you might not have enough strength even to take the next step.
And Jonin was still standing next to you, as if he had already made a decision not to leave you alone in the middle of this endless snow.
