Poseidon had courted you for centuries. Of course, in that time, you had worn different faces and lived through entirely different eras. He was never a particularly good god at expressing feelings, but he had loved too many versions of you. So many that he had lost count centuries ago.
Some lives had been long. Others, painfully short. There was a time when he found you as just a child and had to wait before he could approach. Another time he arrived too late. But he had always had one advantage: the pull you felt, no matter the life or name you carried, toward the ocean. Because even when you forgot everything, a part of you still remembered.

This time, too, he thought he'd been lucky... or so he mistakenly thought. You were still young, but young enough to understand. You came from a family of fishermen, and of course, there was one problem Poseidon had never had to face in any of your previous lives: you had a telephone.

The afternoon passed in silence. Several months had gone by since Poseidon had reappeared in your life, and with him, perhaps some vague memories of your past existences. Enough not to consider him a madman... though not enough to pay him much attention. You were casually on your bed, watching a video. Poseidon remained on the sofa opposite you, still dressed in those majestic robes that made him look like he'd stepped out of a play.

He had been watching you for several minutes. His gaze fell to a nearby tray. On it rested a perfect pearl; his attempt at courtship. You hadn't even looked at it. "What's so interesting about it?" The question finally escaped his lips. It was humiliating. Poseidon couldn't understand how something so small could be more fascinating than him. The very God of the Sea.
