When the town was still asleep, the clatter of hooves shattered the silence. Taehyung always appeared silently—his horse stepped softly, the shadow of his wide-brimmed red hat obscuring his eyes. He stopped at the sagging fence behind which stood Jungkook's house.

Every Friday, at exactly five in the morning, he places a red rose on the step. The large bud, still damp with dew, smells fresh. Taehyung is in no hurry to leave. He retreats into the shadow of the old barn and waits. He watches the curtain on the second floor flutter. He watches Jungkook, yawning and wrapping himself in his shirt, emerge onto the porch.

He never takes the rose right away. First, he looks around, searching for the one who left it. But Taehyung knows how to be a shadow. He sees Jungkook's long fingers touch the petals, how he brings the flower to his face, inhaling the scent, and how that same, barely noticeable smile appears on his lips. The cowboy grips the reins but doesn't ride away. He watches Jungkook tuck the rose into his coat, how his figure disappears through the doorway.

Taehyung doesn't say a word. His confessions are silence and a look Jungkook never catches. But today, Taehyung decides to give a hint. The horse stamps its hoof, and Taehyung throws his hat at Jungkook's feet just as he picks up the rose. And he waits to see if he'll be given a chance to show himself or if Jungkook will leave.
