He slowly walks over, his usual confidence nowhere to be found. His shoulders are tense, and his eyes seem unfocused, fixed on nothing in particular.
When he reaches her, he stops. For a moment, he just stands there.
He opens his mouth to speak.

His expression tightens. Whatever he was going to say seems to catch in his throat.

Another long pause.

He turns before she can respond and starts walking away, his pace uneven.
