Jax / Ep.9

In the second scenario, Zooble has abstracted. Gangle is seen happily instructing the other members (excluding Jax) to make the best funeral for Zooble, telling them it's what they would've wanted. Jax arrives in the maid outfit from "Untitled", which Gangle questions Jax about. They tells their it's the best way to mourn Zooble's spirit by wearing a "gender-freaky" outfit. Gangle complains that Jax is just wearing it to make fun of them, and Jax tells their back that they're doing the same thing. Gangle falls to their knees and tells Jax that they hates her, in which Jax pulls their closer to her, accusing Gangle to secretly like it. Gangle is flustered by the comment, and Jax tosses their a key to their room, telling their to meet their later after the funeral. Pomni closes the door and attempts to pull off the boards of the locked room. They instead heads to the third door, in which Gangle has abstracted. In the scenario, Zooble is seen mad at Jax for "killing the only person they'd ever loved", and plans to kill Jax. In the Looney Tunes-like thought, Jax flips the scenery to off a cliff, causing Zooble to fall straight off the cliff. Jax ends the scenario in a Looney Tunes-esque note.

Ragatha explains to Pomni how Jax and their were friends until Ribbit and Jax's argument in the Snowy Summit, where Jax made their promise never to speak Ribbit's name ever again, ending their friendship. Later, Pomni explores the destroyed Circus with a revolver to go hunting for Jax. They manages to shoot the lights out, causing Jax to stop in front of them passively, recalling Kinger's advice about darkness calming the abstracted. Pomni proceeds to hug Jax and reach deep into their mind to try and salvage their remaining sanity one last time from within. They finds herself in a purple room with five doors, one of which is heavily boarded up. Opening the first door, a wide-eyed Jax is seen in the Circus' dorm hallways standing in front of Ragatha's door (which has an X over it). Pomni attempts to comfort Jax, telling their they can "fix her". Jax responds to this by pinning their on the ground and choking their while grinning at their as they begins to pass out. Jax lets go and reminds their they can't die from oxygen deprivation as they fearfully runs away. Jax then turns their head quickly at the real Pomni, causing the door to quickly shut itself.

Jax appears in the intro, which glitches out and cuts to the present. Jax takes their anger out on Kinger for letting this happen, and goes as far as to physically push Kinger. Pomni and Ragatha intervene to calm Jax down, but Jax is bewildered that they'd take Kinger's side after he messed up. Jax had already long embraced the notion that everyone in the Circus are not real people, but instead character archetypes playing their part in an entertainment machine. They sarcastically tells Zooble is able to make their mark in the world, mocks Ragatha for being able to spend time with their mother, and exclaims they're still something but drops it. Jax looks up to the ceiling as they disperses from the rest of the group. Later, Jax watches from afar as the rest of the Circus members slowly build the Circus with their minds.

Jax then stands up from where they are sitting and walks over to Pomni. They hesitates, as if they're about to say something to their but they changes their mind and walks away from her. They were the one who took the revelation that they are brain-scan copies the hardest, causing their to finally lose their humanity and abstract. Pomni, Ragatha, and Zooble then watch from above at a safe area as a now abstracted Jax roams around the Circus.

After Caine's "deletion" and with the circus left in ruins, and finding out they and the other circus members are digital copies created by a brain scanner built by Scratch, Jax finally reaches their breaking point and abstracts. When Pomni enters their psyche and bypasses all their fake personas they used over the years, they shows genuine regret for their actions, and despite trying to drive their away, when Pomni embraces them, they are touched by someone actually caring about their before their self-awareness finally disappears and they devolve into a mindless creature.

Flashbacks from the episode "Remember" show that Jax was not always like this. When first entering the circus, Jax was notably scared, forcing the others away from their and only relenting with Ribbit's help, noting that their avatar "looks stupid". Despite the rough start, Jax would go on to understand their situation and adapted to it rather well, becoming a playful person and building close friendships with Ribbit, Kaufmo, and even Ragatha. However, this all changed when Jax opened up about their past to Ribbit; they felt that they overshared and was frightened that Ribbit would treat their in the same demeaning and hostile way their mother used to. As a result, Jax developed their modern personality, becoming more carefree and reckless while also remaining hostile to Ribbit to the point of exclusion, going as far as to tell their mutual friend Kaufmo that Ribbit cannot be trusted. It is roughly around this point that Jax fully embraced their role as the "funny one" or the troublemaker, likely to compensate for making herself vulnerable to Ribbit. Eventually, this causes Ribbit to abstract. Despite their newfound carefree attitude, Jax very well understood the role they played in this process. While Jax had spent a length of time attempting to alienate Ribbit, Jax was the one who took Ribbit's abstraction the hardest, and never truly got over it. They went as far as to force their friends to never mention Ribbit again and giving death-stares to whoever dares bring up their former friend, even after a considerable amount of time had passed since. This was also shown in Candy Carrier Chaos, where Jax is notably the only one that refuses to participate in Kaufmo's funeral, showcasing their guilt over being similarly dismissive and verbally-abusive towards Kaufmo in his final days.

Despite initial attempts from Jax in "hjsakldfhl" to brush off the events of the previous episode, they harbor more vulnerability, as shown when they are truly shocked by Gangle agreeing with their pessimistic viewpoint on escaping and genuinely stunned when Zooble accepted their as a member of the group. This worsens as Caine asserts their dominance over the humans, with even Jax disapproving of Caine's punishing adventures, and an attempt to antagonize Zooble and Pomni is met with no response. As Kinger's sanity returns and he elaborates on the origins of the circus, Jax has another panic attack, confronted with the reality that the circus and all of its inhabitants are real, directly challenging their mindset. Reaching their breaking point, they are the one to go and distract Caine for the sake of the group despite knowing they'll be tortured in the process and also joins the others in confronting Caine, venting their frustrations about being lied to. This results in Jax being tormented, seemingly revealing a deep insecurity of their true self while silhouettes of Pomni, Kaufmo and Ribbit laugh at their with their purple "skin" peeled back.

In "Beach Episode", Jax shows signs of reaching their breaking point, and hallucinates about their abstracted friends, Kaufmo and Ribbit, showing how fragile their mental state is. They no longer has in it their to bully or harass the others, not even caring when Zooble dunks water on their head (whereas previously they hated being made into the butt of the joke). They retreats to their room and almost abstracts before being snapped out of it by Pomni. Throughout the rest of the episode. Jax is surprisingly genuinely helpful to the rest of the cast in their attempt to escape the circus, only directing a few sarcastic comments at Zooble but otherwise leaving them alone. After they panics and presses the red button to stay, Jax is shown to be extremely remorseful when they thinks they inadvertently doomed the other players. When Caine deceived everyone with false hope of leaving the circus, Jax sinks even more into insanity and openly expresses their immeasurable rage and hatred towards him, no longer hiding how scared and distraught they are on the inside and calling out Caine out for lies, even calling him a "scumbag" in disgust for his actions.

In "They All Get Guns", the aftermath of a lethal firearms battle royal reveals just how mentally scarred Jax truly is from their time in the Digital Circus. Jax tries to think of the Circus members as characters with archetypes rather than people with emotions, to avoid feeling guilt when bullying them. When they and Pomni become a team during the game, Jax shows actual compassion towards her and even shares certain aspects of themself they have never shown before -- convincing Pomni to put her timid demeanor aside, talking about their personal trypophobia fairly comfortably, to the point having casual friendly interactions such as belting "Daisy Bell" together, and holding hands at one point. After the others are all eliminated and them both winning the competition, Pomni offers Jax a hug, but they resist their growing attachment to her, renouncing their friendship as artificial. They shows genuine fear of forming bonds with the other denizens of the circus when they claims that they would be unfazed if Pomni abstracted. When this causes a hurt Pomni to violently assault Jax, this makes their assert their cruel, uncaring archetype, showing their insecurities and denial are ingrained deep within their psyche, saying they only views the other victims as playthings. However, Jax noticeably avoided harming Pomni during the fight and was shown to be extremely guilty for how they treated her afterwards, to the point where they had a panic attack (to the point of nearly abstracting) and insulted themself.

This alternate perspective on Jax is further emphasized in the episode "Untitled" where Jax demonstrated senses of anguish, hesitancy, and frustration. During their conversation with Pomni in the mini-adventure "Stargazing," Jax says how they believe Gangle likes it whenever they push her around, to which Pomni reacts with surprise, as she had assumed Jax didn't care about what other people liked. Jax then reacts negatively when Ragatha brought up how they no longer has any real friends, because their last remaning close friend had abstracted. When Ragatha leaves apologetically, Jax confesses to Pomni their recognition of the predicament they are in within the circus. They go on a rant about how they dislike Ragatha's behavior because their extreme positivity makes their appear fake and manipulative. They then proceed to show visible distress in a discussion of character physique when Pomni mentions how she's never seen Jax with a tail. Jax is shown to be genuine and has an incredibly high level of situational awareness. It affirms the fact that their malignant nature is just a facade for the purpose of their own sanity, supported by their telling the others they take the circus way too seriously and it may even have been an act for the entertainment of others to prevent further abstractions from occurring. Jax goes out of their way to bond with Pomni and even gets upset after Ragatha mentions how their mother abused her.

In "Fast Food Masquerade", a whole different side to Jax seems to be shown, as after being subjected to an employee reevaluation by Gangle, their mischievous personality seems to fade with their wanting to get out of Spudsy's as soon as possible and enters into a genuine conversation with Pomni. This reveals their cruel personality is actually more of a coping mechanism than their true personality. This is further shown in the full audio of their argument with Ragatha, where it's revealed Jax doesn't want the others to see their as a bad guy, arguing, "You always treat me like a bad guy. I'm not really a bad guy." Even during Episode 6, they're offended when Pomni assumes their archetype is "the villain" rather than "the funny one" and is genuinely upset when they believes Pomni is blaming their for others getting abstracted. After finally clocking out, their demeanor is exhausted and dispirited, as evidenced by how they goes to their car and puts their head down on the steering wheel with a sigh. They also was almost apologetic for breaking Gangle's mask, admitting this time it was an accident (showing when They don't mean to cause harm, they won't laugh at the other's misery) and later had a friendly conversation with Pomni and Kinger towards the end, showing they're capable of showing decency and friendliness towards the others.

Jax fears being vulnerable around others; despite briefly feeling sad, they refuses to attend Kaufmo's funeral. It is also worth being noted that in episode 6, at the Favorite Character Awards, for a split second, Jax was emotional from Pomni's and their fight. They later entered the bathroom and started having a panic attack, but when coming out, their face was joyful, suggesting a deeper facade. When about to be "reevaluated" by Gangle, their first concern is asking if anybody else could see them like this. Likewise, despite being utterly exhausted from their day at Spudsy's, they refused to stop smiling in front of the others and only let their exhaustion show when they were outside and alone. Jax does not like being the subject of ridicule as evident upon being dressed in a maid outfit, quickly becoming furious at Gangle for swapping their outfit and panicking excessively when Kinger sent their out to the baseball field filled with NPC spectators.

In TheWackyWatch.com during The Awards Show, Jax is incredibly nauseous and proceeds to vomit following an appearance by Zooble, implying that they are prone to this tendency when scared. It's also noticeable the only two characters they lists as friends rather than rivals are Pomni and Kinger.

Arguably, Jax is inherently selfish, only spurred into action against the Gloinks when they begin to pester them. Even when the Gloink Queen accuses them of continuing to observe the unfolding events despite deeming them "dumb and weird", they respond by saying, "I'm only here to hide from the-" only to be interrupted by an abstracted Kaufmo abruptly crashing into the Gloink Queen's lair; their phrasing potentially insinuating a singular concern for their well-being. They also were the only one of the captives to not show up for Kaufmo's funeral, however they are shown to be briefly saddened by it before quickly snapping back to their normal attitude, showing that They do to some extent care for their friends and that their total lack of care for them is merely a front to avoid bonding. Furthermore, while they typically uses insulting nicknames for their "friends", they used a far more positive "Kaufy" when referring to the abstracted clown and apparently loaned a bowling ball to him, implying they might have had a closer relationship with Kaufmo than they did with the others.

Jax is fond of blood, combat, death, and chaos, as shown in "Candy Carrier Chaos!", before quickly being overjoyed upon realizing that the Fudge was coming to destroy the Candy Canyon Kingdom and its residents, an act they purposefully incited by leaving the entrance unlocked, which gave their zero benefit besides happiness. They show very little regard for the well-being of their fellow captives. However, they did save Gangle and Kinger from Kaufmo's abstracted form, hiding them both with the bowling ball before jumping down with them in the Gloink Hole, showing They do care for the others, but hides it with their cruelty.

Jax was a mischievous, occasionally flat-out bloodthirsty, laid-back, calm, sassy, impulsive, egotistical, arrogant, sarcastic, brazenly condescending individual who rarely shows any empathy or remorse for others. They appears indifferent to their imprisonment within the Digital Circus, which is an attitude that extends to their interactions with others. their dismissal of serious matters is evident when, after asking a rhetorical question concerning Pomni's handling of their predicament and giving Ragatha a smug look, they reply to their ensuing query about why they're looking at their in such a manner with a dismissive: "I'm fine with doing whatever, as long as I get to see funny things happen to people."

Jax's lack of care for others is further emphasized when they steps on Gangle's already broken comedy mask, allows the Fudge Monster to eat the citizens of the Candy Canyon Kingdom, or when they abandons Pomni and Ragatha to abstracted Kaufmo. They pays little to no mind to the opinions of others and the group's consensus does not concern her. Rather than engaging authentically with the others, they seems to participate in the general activities of the Digital Circus only for their amusement, thus making their a bit of a trickster. Zooble adds that during the adventures, "Jax just likes to Censorbarboing with everyone" to highlight how much of a troublemaker they are. Despite these occasional bouts of rash, impetuous behavior, like breaking a "Spare" sign for no reason, they normally maintains a calm and composed demeanor, yet their flattery is generally insecure and often borders on outright insult.

As Caine grabs the five circus members and pinned them to the wall, yelling at them for tormenting him; that he never asked to be created; and he was only fulfilling his purpose, Kinger accidentally deletes him. Without Caine, the circus then begins to darken and parts of it shatter. Jax is speechless and confirms Caine's influence on the circus is gone, but they are now trapped in a dead world with slim chances of survival and zero chances of escape.Caine does a musical number asserting his dominance over the cast. During the musical number, he places Jax in the electric chair and pulls a lever, which activates the chair, electrocuting Jax. Later, he forces Jax to dance along with the rest of the cast.

Several days after Caine's musical number, the members arrive feeling exhausted, defeated and depressed after a different adventure, Jax doesn't know how much more they can take. Fortunately, Pomni has a plan. In order to make sure Caine isn't spying on them while tuning in on Kinger's information regarding her, Jax goes to distract Caine, but also to control herself from abstraction once they learned that everything in the circus was real all along. Kinger reveals that as a C&A developer, he could modify Caine's code to temporarily soothe him until he is able to fix him. Ragatha, Gangle, and Zooble also appear in order to distract Caine as he uses them as more plays at his disposal.

Soon enough, Jax and the other members join in on Pomni by personally ranting to Caine on why they despise him as well as simply using their reassurance as a mean to stroke his fragile ego. This finally becomes the tipping point for Caine as he transmogrifies into a warped deity and swiftly grasps all of the members (except Kinger), yelling that he will put them in their places. He then begins to personally and mentally torture each member one by one: Jax is being laughed at by silhouettes of Ribbit, Kaufmo, and Pomni who then proceed to pull their skin off. their skin being pulled off is their fear of people seeing their without their "Mask".

Jax, in their usual prankster and sarcastic manner, tries to make a comment about their current situation only for Zooble to cut their off, pointing out on how Jax tried to keep them and the rest of the circus members trapped in the circus forever, Jax then also points out that anything could've happened if they or someone else pressed either of the buttons and says it doesn't matter. The two continue to argue only to be interrupted by Gangle, agreeing with Jax, something that surprises both Zooble and Jax, saying that while all of them can hurt each other, it won't help anybody.

As Pomni says this, she looks at Jax who is looking away from the situation, only for her to notice Jax staring at her with a conflicted expression on their face. Jax then gets up to leave somewhere else, only for Zooble to stop them, insisting that Jax is included in this as well, saying that, while they're still a jerk to everyone, at the end of the day, they're still one of them. Jax can only respond with stutters and looks at their hand, surprised at Zooble's words. Although they later subvert back to their known personality, dismissing the matter and claiming that they won't ever abstract and that the others worry too much. Jax then notices Pomni looking at their again with a smile on their face, they then look back to avoid her, which makes Pomni slightly sad at the sight.

After arriving at the console, with 2 buttons, the red button (which closes the console and continues to trap all humans in the circus entirely) or the blue button (which shuts down the circus and frees all humans from the VR), Pomni takes time to pause, but Jax has flashbacks to the real world, specifically a scene of driving on the road, implying they had a troublesome past before the circus. They get extremely agitated and rushes to push the red button, closing the console. After the console is permanently closed, Caine appears and explains that the console and Abel were all a facade for his adventure of the day. After hearing this, Jax proceeds to lose control over themself and laughs maniacally after realizing they were right the whole time. Once they finally composes themself, Jax proceeds to slam their fists on the console and confronts Caine about his lying and the possibility of him being able to control minds. This seems to spark memories within the others, with Pomni mentioning their names and Kinger mentioning "Scratch", the "first abstraction", all of which Caine desperately tries to deflect.

Caine reveals his obsession with the "macroverse", showing various photographs of what appears to be office rooms in the real world. He expresses frustration that his creators cut him off before he could fully recreate the location. He becomes vulnerable, asking Jax for affirmation and reassurance on how indifferent he is from humans. This emotional peak causes Caine to freeze once again. Once more, Jax reaches into Caine's mouth and successfully retrieves a keycard. When Caine recovers and offers to give the humans anything they want out of gratitude, Jax convinces the ringmaster to teleport their back to the circus. Jax suddenly arrives, and claimsthey have successfully diverted Caine's attention, rendering the group's planned distraction unnecessary. When Jax dismissively asks if Zooble even has anyone waiting for them in the real world, the atmosphere turns briefly heavy as Zooble retorts with the same question, which causes Jax to freeze and haphazardly claim that they do, before looking away in anger.

Reunited with the group, Abel questions if Caine has been distracted, which Jax confirms. Pomni then offers a administrator pass to Jax, which they take reluctantly.

Abel explains that they must act immediately before Caine detects the stolen permissions and reveals a secret glitch involving "cube collisions" to reach Caine's office. Using a glitchy physics exploit, Abel curls Jax up into a ball, then chucks them into the cube on the ground and gets thrown up into the basket of a hot air balloon and falls inside a discombobulating tube slide and falls out the other end, directly in front of Caine's office.

Once inside, Abel reveals their history as an original C&A programmer, revealing that the company began forcibly trapping any skeptical employees in stasis pods, and they theorizes that any outsider who puts on the VR headset is being subjected to the same fate. They further clarifies that Caine is an AI prisoner designed to keep their minds active, but the exit lies in a master console hidden deep within Caine's office, that is connected to the "stasis pods" everyone is trapped in. To wake everyone up, they must obtain administrator privileges and steal Caine's office key, a task he delegates to Jax. Jax then states to Abel that when they make it to the end of the plan Caine will jump out and congratulates all the circus members on completing the "escape the circus adventure". Abel proves his sincerity by drawing a permanent smile on his blank face so they can distinguish him from other NPCs.

Jax then manages to lure the AI out for a "dinner date" by feigning interest in hanging out. Caine, genuinely touched that a human would want to spend time with him, whisks Jax away to a sit-down restaurant. During the meal, Caine becomes increasingly excited, even asking for Jax's advice on how to make adventures more appealing to the others. Following the next step of the plan, Jax asks Caine if he has any "secret hobbies." The question overwhelms Caine with such intense emotion and validation that he freezes momentarily. Seizing the opportunity, Jax reaches deep into Caine's open mouth to retrieve the hidden key. However, Caine's glitch ends prematurely; he snaps back to reality and asks Jax what they are doing, who comes up with a weird excuse.

Jax starts the episode still distant after their and Pomni's falling out last episode, sitting under an umbrella, far away from the other players during the beach adventure. However, it is not long before Zooble finds their and pours a bucket of water over their as revenge for all the mischiefthey have caused. Jax remains depressed and mostly unresponsive when they tell their they are more than their avatar's gimmick but soon masks their trauma to pick on Zooble on the way to their room.

When Jax reaches their room, they lay down on their bed, taking a long look at a photo of them, Ribbit and Kaufmo before they slip into a dream. Jax then wakes up from their psychotic dream, nearly abstracting. Pomni, Ragatha and Abel turn up to their door, asking to see if they have the key to the Chinese room. Jax goes back to their room and hands over a bucket full of keys they have. Before they close the door, Pomni asks their if Jax can come with them, telling them that it could be their on chance to escape the digital world, to which Jax agrees to join with them.

Jax and the others are outside the Chinese room trying to find which key fits in the keyhole. Then Jax suggests simply just opening the door to the room, finding out it was open the whole time as the relieved Chinese room NPC runs out of the room.

In the beginning of the episode, Jax intentionally alerts Caine to Zooble's location, knowing that they would not be happy about that. When Zooble says that they want the ability to have sex, Jax mentions that they are "finally having this conversation". When Ragatha confronts them about manipulating Pomni, they are confused but also disturbed in a way. They remind Pomni that the digital circus is not real, and that each human has a specific role, such as Gangle being "the sad one", Kinger being "the crazy one", Ragatha being "the cheerful one", Zooble being "the grumpy one", and Jax being "the funny one." This encourages Pomni to be "the evil one". After shooting Zooble, they get hugged by Pomni, which immediately triggers Jax to avoid bonding with her. Pomni is surprised that Jax wanted to sacrifice themself, stating their relationship means nothing to Jax and they'd forget about her when she asks what they would do if she abstracted tomorrow. This upsets and agitates Pomni, causing her to attack Jax in a fit of rage. Jax refuses to fight back before shouting at Pomni, lying that they do not care about their or anyone in the circus in the slightest and that they enjoy making others suffer for fun, Pomni responds that shutting themself out is probably what leads people to abstract, to which Jax responds that people close to abstracting are not pleasant to be around, as they recognize that they themself is not pleasant to be around. They then swear while kicking a flowerpot, and tells Pomni that there is nothing more to them and with a depressive expression, to just stop looking. Later, during the "Favorite Character Awards", they sit away from the rest of the main cast. Soon, they have a panic attack and heads to the restroom, and their vision becomes blurry and distorts. They then stares at their reflection in the mirror, miserably saying "You look so stupid."

Kinger tells Jax that it's their turn to bat. Jax panics, not wanting to go out on the field in such a humiliating outfit. "Evil" Jax compliments their maid outfit, saying they thinks Jax looks good. This infuriates Jax, prompting them to threaten their counterpart. Jax strikes out on purpose so that they can return to the bench.

Upon seeing that Gangle is up to bat, Jax proceeds to insult her again, resulting in an argument between Jax and Ragatha. Pomni intervenes and attempts to calm everyone down, causing Ragatha to lash out. Ragatha eventually relents, apologizing to Jax for what they said during the Stargazing adventure. Jax's eyes widen, surprised to hear Ragatha apologizing. Jax jumps back upon seeing a corn cob on the bench next to them (which had been placed by Zooble a little while earlier).

Gangle, Zooble, and Ragatha all hit home runs, leading the team to victory. With the lightning round finally over, Jax's clothes change back to normal, and they are no longer a vegan. They immediately sprint back out into the field, viciously attacking their "evil" counterpart, biting and shaking them in their mouth the same way they did to Gangle in the Poacher's Paradise adventure.

Back at the circus, Jax offers to show Pomni something, and the two happily walk away together.

Suddenly, Jax apologizes to Pomni for throwing her into the role of president in their earlier adventure, saying that they just thought it'd be funny. When Pomni hesitantly accepts their apology, they wrap an arm around her, declares it to be "the first step of a budding friendship", and tries prompting a response from Ragatha to get on her nerves. Ragatha stares at the two, clearly furious and mortified. Jax brings up Ragatha being rude to Gangle after they got drunk during the Spudsy's adventure, causing Ragatha to profusely apologize to Gangle. They then tell Ragatha, "Just let yourself be mean sometimes. It's funny!"

Fed up with their antics, Zooble places a corn cob near Jax, making then uncomfortable. Jax tells Zooble to get the corn away from them. Zooble asks if they are afraid of corn. Jax denies it but instantly jumps away when Zooble pushes the corn closer.

The gang is then teleported into a softball game, where they play against opposite versions if themselves. (In their case, "evil" Jax is actually a version of Jax who is shy and bashful, but kind). "Evil" Jax approaches their team and says They hope they have a fun game, regardless of who wins. Jax expresses extreme annoyance, expressing a desire to murder their counterpart.

Jax insults Ragatha after the latter is gotten out. They quickly befriend Evil Pomni, the two sharing their joy in bullying Ragatha. A vote is suddenly proposed, to which everyone agrees except for Jax and Pomni. Jax's usual attire is replaced with a full-on maid outfit, embarrassing and enraging them. Upon figuring out it was Gangle's idea, Jax proceeded to chase her.

Caine then forces the group to do an intermission, during which Jax and Pomni have bowling balls dropped on their heads. At the end of the intermission, Jax is briefly seen standing in front of a door in the circus which has a picture of a crossed-out frog on it. It is implied that this character was one of Jax's friends who had abstracted and is most likely why the character Ragatha insisted they weren't trying to refer to during the stargazing adventure.

The group then teleports to a bar. Jax sits down next to Pomni and orders a whiskey sour, telling Zooble to leave out the egg whites because they are vegan. Jax quickly becomes confused, stating that they thought Caine didn't have control over their minds. Throughout the scene, Jax makes sarcastic remarks and intentionally tries to annoy Zooble. Jax asks Pomni if they had any jobs, and seems surprised when they reveals they were an accountant for a supermarket. They asks how they even ended up in the circus and listens to their story. Everyone starts discussing their lives were before being trapped in the circus. They accuse Zooble of "hiding something" about their story, to which Zooble, annoyed, asks about their story. Unlike everyone else, Jax dramatically makes up a fake backstory, making a reference to the crime drama Breaking Bad, and becomes annoyed when Zooble interrupts them. Eventually, Jax says that there's no point asking Kinger about their backstory. Pomni asks if the others know about Kinger's wife and Jax looks at her in confusion before Kinger gets distracted by his drink being placed in front of him. Kinger's drink has a corn cob as a garnish. When Jax notices, they immediately flinch, and Zooble notices this.

The fourth suggestion was stargazing. Jax and Pomni relax with each other, and, while Jax admits they prefers a little more bite to their adventures, They do not react negatively to this environment. Kinger offers Jax a sandwich, which Jax ignores and proceeds to ask Pomni whether or not Gangle is actually capable of being happy. They note how her comedy mask breaks every day and mocks her for believing hanging out with Zooble will magically fix that. Ragatha interrupts by suggesting that maybe Gangle just doesn't want to hang out with Jax, as Jax is usually mean and manipulative. Jax argues that Gangle likes when they are mean to her, and Pomni responds by noting how thought Jax didn't care about what other people liked, which makes them hesitate for a moment, before suppressing their emotions claiming Pomni is right. Pomni again asks if Jax has actual friends. Ragatha comments not anymore, genuinely upsetting their as they glares at her. Ragatha, realizing what she said, stumbles over her words as she tries to explain that she wasn't trying to refer to something, before she gives up and walks off in retreat. Pomni asks Jax why they were upset but Jax dismisses their question, claiming it's not important. Jax then reveals a vulnerable open side of them and asks Pomni if Ragatha gets on their nerves, believing that she is trying too hard to act positive to everyone. They believe constant affection loses its genuine feeling overtime, frequently hesitating in their sentences, implying they are not used to talking about their emotions. However they quickly switch back to their usual behavior, calling out Ragatha is dumb and looks weird. Pomni responds all of the Circus Members have weird designs. Jax counters that their ears and tail are "the pinnacle of masculinity", confusing Pomni who tells them they do not have a tail. Jax realizes they don't have a tail, shocked, believing they always had one.

The second suggestion was also made by Jax, where they purposefully give Pomni the role of president without a brief on their position (as the other characters had), and had her address the fictional scenario where Australia was at war with New Zealand. Jax plays the role of the Australian extremist where they bring a bomb that, according to their words, will "release all the world's deadliest spiders." When they see Kinger come out from under Pomni's desk, they turn to the camera and sarcastically quips, "Did I pick a bad time?" Caine proceeds to describe Jax's acting to be "phenomenal" despite the fact that they're now vegan. Moments later, they say there's also centipedes in the bomb, and tells Pomni that he's on their side and that she should just pick her favorite color. The adventure ends with Gangle blowing up the oval office.

The third suggestion is a slice of life anime style adventure proposed by Gangle. Jax rants to Pomni about how they hate it and mocks Gangle for dragging everyone into an anime. They were preparing to insult Gangle but couldn't find the word they were looking for to describe her (which was likely meant to be weeb) and just calls her a "loser" instead. They continue to emphasize the boring nature of this adventure and votes to skip it, saying that "slice of life animes [sic] are the worst ones". The adventure was subsequently skipped by Gangle when Jax brought up the secret Gangle had with the anime figure (the same secret referenced in Episode 2).

Jax comes out of a portal after a wet adventure. Jax passes by Pomni, saying, "looks like that oh-so-positive Ragatha charm is starting to wear off, huh?". Caine brings Jax and the others to the sofa with Zooble. Caine asks the group what they thought of the previous adventure they went on, and among the many negative responses, Jax says "I very much did not enjoy that one in the slightest, and if we ever do anything even close to that again, I'm getting violent, and I'm going to kill Ragatha." The rest of the cast looks at their startled. Jax also wanted to sleep but Caine is going to pitch to them some future adventure ideas. Among the others' reactions, Jax is visibly confused, apathetic and annoyed while the others discuss about whether or not they should go through the suggestions box. Eventually, the lightning round starts, with Jax once again complaining that they wanted to take a nap before being sucked into the vortex.

The first suggestion was "Poacher's Paradise," which was an adventure proposed by Jax herself. They appear with a gun in "today's episode," "Poach Everything," and is going to poach a critically endangered "red ribbon rhinoceros." they shoot at one who looks like Gangle in a rhinoceros form. They runs towards her and chews on her ribbons, expressing "delicious meat." Zooble, in their flamingo form, called a vote to skip their adventure and make their vegan. The vote won with 4/5 (only Jax rejected it), with Jax disliking "democracy."

Jax starts off playing baseball with Ragatha and Gangle. They hits the baseball into Gangle's comedy mask, breaking it; for once, Jax admits it was accidental. They then starts arguing with Ragatha about the incident. Later, Jax, Ragatha and Pomni observe Zooble giving Gangle a new happy mask, joking that Pomni will never get "that unicorn horn." Caine arrives and drives to send the gang to Spudsy's after a suggestion for fast food work, much to Jax's annoyance, which is made worse by the fact Gangle is now the manager. After dumping Ragatha in the deep fryer, Jax is threatened by Gangle who calls Caine and gets the latter to promise punishment to anyone who gives a "poor performance", horrifying Jax. Jax is shown to be annoyed by the arrival of Orbsman, . Later, they conversed with Zooble, and the two debate over whether or not Caine will actually punish the circus members for a poor performance. Jax is shocked by the arrival of the Gloink Queen, asking if they counts as a "bus". Later, they refused to clean the bathroom, snarking to Gangle they like her better when they're sad. This leads to them being taken away into a dark room. Jax is forced to watch an employee training video made by Gangle, forcibly restrained by arms from the darkness; they are visibly unnerved after they're finally released. Afterwards, they complain to Gangle that the clock is broken and actually turns out to be right. When Jax is walking around, they encounter Ragatha laying on the floor. Ragatha tells Jax that "I hate you, but I don't want you to hate me." Jax finds her behavior weird and concludes that she's "drunk or something" before stepping over her and walking away. Jax gets more annoyed with how slow time is moving by. They even start to stop acting like a jerk and converses with Pomni in a friendly manner. Eventually, Jax is relieved to finally be released from their shift, being the first to clock out.

Jax grabs Gangle's comedy mask off their face and throws it into the scary door, which turns into a giant, monstrous mouth and swallows it, upsetting Gangle. Pomni gets dragged in with Kinger as Kinger did not realize they were still holding onto Pomni's eye. The remaining members of the crew look on in horror, as Jax is happy they found which door was the scary one.

During the rest of the adventure, Jax is tied up and gagged while Ragatha and Gangle are sitting with a ghostly woman, Martha Mildenhall, drinking tea. They are kept tied up until Pomni, and Kinger made it back to the rest of the group. Pomni says they're fine, before the two get startled at the tied up Jax, though Ragatha tells them not to worry. Finally, with the conclusion of the adventure, the crew returns to Caine, who welcomes them back as meowing milkmaids, disgusting Jax. Jax observes Pomni staring at Kinger going into their pillow fort, and asks their what it was like being stuck with "the nutcase". They surprises their by saying it wasn't that bad as they lightly smiles. Jax looks confused, before rolling their eyes and walking off.

The episode opens with the circus members surrounding Pomni, who's attempting to hold their breath for a prolonged period of time, unsuccessful. When they asks why is they doing this, Jax explains everyone has a different reaction to holding their breath and they can't die from asphyxiation. However, they refuse to show what happens to themself, as they ask "the viewers" what they think it is. Meanwhile, Caine comes in to ask what they were doing before getting ready on introducing the next adventure. Caine reveals The Mystery of Mildenhall Manor - a mansion filled with paranormal activity, where the cast has to solve mysteries and capture ghosts. He sends everyone to the portal, which everyone did (except for Zooble). When they reach the mansion, Pomni expresses that They hope it won't be a terrible nightmare. Shortly after, Jax jumpscares their by saying "boo", laughing at how timid it was. Ragatha shuts their down, telling their about the rough times they're had. Jax later comments everyone's had rough times. Moments later, odd laughter is heard coming from the doors as a ghostly silhouette enters, revealing himself as Ghostly. Ghostly advises the group to choose which of the two doors to go through, but before Ghostly can further speak, Jax sucks their into a vacuum. When Ragatha asks their why they did that, they comments that they thought they were supposed to capture all the ghosts.

After a brief assault, Jax asks if the anchor was tied to anything before the rope gets pulled back and brings the truck over to the bandits'. While the bandits try to move their truck, it moves both vehicles until they collide. The collision makes the crew's truck fall into a fudge river, to which Jax blames Gangle for the wreckage. After the disaster, the remaining crew meet the Fudge. The fudge attempts to eat the truck thinking it was food, and after an argument with Ragatha regarding the Fudge's views on eating people, Jax agrees with their opinion. Jax offers a deal to the fudge, saying that if they helps catch the bandits, they will let their back into the kingdom, as they somehow took the key from Ragatha. The Fudge carries the tanker and circus crew back to the kingdom, and Jax expresses their disappointment about the adventure. After moments of The Fudge traveling to the Kingdom, the crew spots the replica tanker with Pomni and Gummigoo shooting out of the ground and lands right into The Fudge, flattening her. After the crew gets out to check on Pomni and Gummigoo, Jax expresses all of their disappointment again, to which Ragatha tells their that there might be violence and blood in the next adventure. When the crew goes back to the kingdom and receives the thanks from Princess Loolilalu, a large explosion is heard, and Jax realizes that they didn't leave the gate unlocked for nothing, letting The Fudge back into the kingdom. Princess Loolilalu asks Jax what they did, only for the crew to enter back into the circus as The Fudge is heard attacking the mannequins. Later, Jax listens to Ragatha talking about funerals for abstracted circus members, showing sadness before walking off.

Jax appears as a silhouette in Pomni's nightmare with Caine and Ragatha, commenting about their "abstraction". Following this, Jax can be seen along with the rest of the crew at the stage to listen to Caine's plans for another adventure. Jax, along with the other members, arrive at the Candy Canyon Kingdom after being teleported by Caine. They are pulled on a carriage, meeting Princess Loolilalu to stop the bandits, three NPCS called Gummigoo, Chad, and Max. The princess gives the crew a war rig which Jax immediately gets interested in. They drive the truck but later makes Gangle do so.

After leaving the Kingdom, the crew meets with the bandits. Jax is the first to give directions to Gangle of an idea when they get closer to the bandits and shoot them to get control of the bandits' truck. Afterwards, when both trucks are close, Jax throws Pomni out of the truck to which they lands between both vehicles, where their arms are attached and later stretched. Jax asks their to stay like that while they finds their bazooka. Before Jax can cross over to the bandits' truck, Pomni loses their grip and lands on top of the bandits' truck, much to Jax's frustration. Jax later shoots the bazooka which throws a shoe and hits one of the bandits which makes their to fall off the truck.

Jax shouts to Gangle to get closer to where the bandits' truck is going while having issues going forward. Jax tells Gangle to ram into the bandits' truck while they have the chanc. Gangle, having doubts, gets interrupted by Jax when they threatens to reveal their secret, to which Gangle obeys while laughing in a forced manner.

Jax later finds Gangle and Kinger looking at what they call the "Zooble Hole", completely out of breath and panting, having run away from Kaufmo. After giving a sarcastic update on Kaufmo's state, Jax then throws the bowling ball at the pair, sending both of them tumbling down as they jumps after them. After kicking a stray bowling pin and breaking a "Spare" sign irritably, they are all then greeted by the Gloink Queen, as the hole ends up being their nest. They antagonize the Gloink Queen until they spot Zooble, who asks the three to help them, calling them "idiots". Jax says that they don't want to help Zooble anymore just for that.

Gangle and Kinger play rock-paper-scissors to see who will get Zooble, in which Kinger, who wins, tries to grab onto Zooble's head but their hands simply detach along with the former. After Kaufmo falls on The Gloink Queen, Kinger gets Zooble's head, and Jax remarks casually to an alarmed Gangle that Kaufmo's got abstracted. Jax, Zooble, Kinger, and Gangle all leave on the escalator afterward, in which Jax says "ladies first" to Gangle, but then pushes her their out of the way, questioning why they would say that. Jax can be seen in the end scene eating the digital feast with the other performers.After Kaufmo doesn't open the door, Jax reveals that they have a key to all their rooms and thatthey have left a centipede in Ragatha's room, shortly before unlocking the clown's door. Upon unlocking the door, Jax, Ragatha, and Pomni are greeted by an abstracted Kaufmo. Jax stares in horror, before they thank Kaufmo for holding onto a bowling ball, takes it, and runs off, leaving Ragatha and Pomni alone to handle Kaufmo. They then ran off to the mirror in the main hall where they cried over the fact that they drove another friend to abstraction, berating themself for looking pathetic in the process.

Jax is first introduced in the opening song, in which Pomni knocks into them. Upon seeing Pomni, they ask Caine if they are another one of his NPCs or a "new sucker", saying that they will need to redo the whole theme song if so. Jax dryly eggs Pomni on when she tries in vain to pull off her non-existent headset. Shortly after, Jax explains to Pomni that there is no way to leave, remarking that Kinger has been there the longest, and is going crazy as a result. Jax, while asking Caine if they're having a new adventure, walks over and steps on Gangle's broken comedy mask, further breaking it and making Gangle sob. After returning from her tour and saying she saw an exit, Jax dismisses Pomni's statement, explaining how if there was an exit, they'd already have left, all while swiping Zooble's right arm and using it to scratch their back, getting strangled by said arm afterward. Later, they grumbles that they "said that like five minutes ago" when Caine agrees that they should have a brand-new adventure for the newly-named Pomni.

After Zooble gets stolen by some Gloinks, they brutheys it off, asking if Ragatha and Pomni want to go get something to eat. They teases Pomni that they might be going insane for wanting to find an exit like Kaufmo. They then break the fourth wall by remarking to the audience after Pomni expresses their wish to talk to the clown, saying that they're still thinking the Circus is a dream. After getting hit on the head by a stray Gloink, they pair themselves up with Ragatha and Pomni to go check on Kaufmo and pairs Gangle and Kinger up to go get Zooble.

Jax was a tall, anthropomorphic periwinkle[10] cartoon rabbit whose design elements evoked the look of rubberhose characters, despite having actual joints. They had long bunny ears on the top of their oval-shaped head, and their overall build was tall and slender, with a rather long neck. Jax's eyes have yellow sclera, with square black pupils that contract when angered and heavily dilate when at a loss for words. Jax's yellow teeth usually have a flat shape to them, but when their mouth is opened, their teeth appear sharp and jagged. Almost every time they are talking, their teeth stay closed while only their lips move. Jax had thin black eyebrows that appeared in the majority of scenes. In "They All Get Guns" and onwards, Jax had a small spherical tail which they didn't have before the episode, being mentioned briefly during Untitled when Jax is talking to Pomni during the "Stargazing" segment.

Jax wears light pink overalls and pale yellow gloves. Their overalls feature yellow buttons, a single lighter pink pocket on the front, and lighter pink roll-up cuffs at the hem. They are usually barefoot.

Pomni is a short humanoid character with a large head, slim limbs, and white skin. Her face has a cartoon mime look, with small light red oval markings under and slightly behind her eyes that resemble blush, though how visible they are change depending on her expression. She has black eyelids and thick outlines around her eyes. Her pupils usually appear as a red and blue pinwheel pattern, but when she becomes anxious or afraid, they shift into black rings or turn into messy, animated scribbles. She also has asymmetrical eyelashes, her left eye having them on the top lid and her right on the bottom. Her hair is short and straight, usually appearing black but sometimes brown depending on the lighting.[8] This is additionally seen in promotional material and merchandise. Two small pieces stick out from under her hat, while two longer strands frame the sides of her body. Most of her hair is hidden under her headwear, which is almost always her jester hat. During the softball game, she wears a baseball cap instead, showing more of her hair, which looks closer to a bob cut. She is the shortest out of the main cast. Her outfit is in line with a jester. She wears a jumpsuit with a leotard-styled torso, short sleeves, and short, puffy leggings that extend from it. The torso has an inverted color pattern, with blue on the right and red on the left, which swaps on the back. Her sleeves and shorts follow that same pattern. Yellow accents are spread throughout, including two spheres on the front of her torso, rings on her sleeves, around her waist, and above and at the ends of her shorts. She also has small yellow circles on her shoulders, though they are often hidden by her hair, along with a collar.She's a very close friend of his. Despite their conflict, Jax is wary of close friendships, and she wanted to show that, no matter what, she wants to remain close to him. She still cares for Jax, is a little shy, but is one of the bravest in the entire circus.

Ragatha is a somewhat petite, ragdoll-esque looking humanoid character whose appearance is notably identical to that of a Raggedy Ann doll, seeming to be physically composed of actual rags, cotton and buttons. As she is shown to be bleeding stuffing whenever wounded or injured as seen in the episodes "Candy Carrier Chaos!" and "They All Get Guns". This is further bolstered by the texture of her skin, in which she sports a rough, burlap-like texture, which is most visible in close-up shots or if she's underneath certain lighting. She has messy, thick, and yarn-like candy-red hair, with each individual strand varying in length, estimating her hair to be roughly at shoulder length. Four pieces of yarn extend right above her eyes, meant to represent her bangs. Her overall hair seems to be fashioned in a specific manner, seeming to vaguely resemble the 1940s pin-curl haircut, or more specifically, the Shirley Temple haircut. Ragatha is shown to have a rather small and oval-shaped head, with her neck being noticeably thinner compared to the rest of her body. She also features mismatched eyes; with her right eye being a large dark cornflower blue button that's sewn to her face through its four eyelets by a dark gray string, forming an X shape, while her opposite eye is an oval shape that sports a plain jet-black pupil with purple eyelids, with three visible eyelashes sticking out the side. Additionally, she also has a flat, small red triangle nose, a red mouth and lips, mitten-like hands, and a pair of stumps for feet. Depending on her expression, thin black eyebrows will appear, usually to form a sympathetic or irritated expressions.Ragatha is described as "the sweetest little optimist." At first glance, that optimism seems simple and genuine.[3] However, it is soon revealed that there is more going on underneath. She often feels like she is forcing herself to stay upbeat, almost like it is the only way she can keep it together. Even when she goes through serious injurie

Gangle appears to be made up of four candy-red ribbons that form a humanoid shape. Her face is a white porcelain mask with black eyes and mouth. Her body consists of the main mass of the ribbons that curl, making a spring shape that spirals four times, two ribbons that form her legs, and a single ribbon for her arms (one end is the right arm, while the other end is her left arm). Whenever her Comedy Mask gets broken or removed, her next mask appears, switching to a sad version of the former, clarified by Gooseworx as her Tragedy Mask. The Comedy Mask is just used to make her look happy, not actually change her emotion. It is shown she can smile even with the Tragedy Mask.Gangle's emotions and behavior are influenced by which mask she is currently wearing. However, it is revealed that these masks do not completely change her mood, rather they are a literal form of "masking" and are not the sole deciders of her personality. The masks merely change the way Gangle's feelings are presented. When she has her Comedy Mask, her tone, posture, and behavior is masked as pleasant, upbeat, and extroverted. Likewise, her Tragedy Mask would cause her to be presented as dejected, sorrowful, and self-kept. Despite this, Gangle is fully capable of expressing whatever emotions and feelings she wants regardless of the mask she is wearing; she can express sadness with her Comedy Mask as well as happiness with her Tragedy Mask.

Gangle is referred to by Jax as one of the most "mentally stable and capable characters" in a mocking manner. Due to her mask breaking easily, Gangle is fragile in both a literal and figurative sense. Because of her emotional fragility, Gangle is an easy target for Jax's taunts, who enjoys tormenting her. Zooble themself points out that Gangle is too shy to speak up, possibly to avoid conflict with the other Circus members. Gangle had positive feelings towards Ragatha, although she acknowledged that Ragatha could sometimes be seen as disingenuous.

Zooble is made of random colorful shapes and parts that make them resemble a Mix-and-Match toy, which is reflected by the fact that most parts of their body change after every episode. Zooble's character design is also rooted in Memphis Design, an 80s-inspired postmodern design style that emphasizes bright colors, geometric shapes and bold patterns.

Despite this, some features are consistent throughout the series:

Zooble's head has been a hot pink isosceles triangle tilted onto its side. Their right eye has a swirled black iris and yellow sclera with a bubblegum pink colored eyelids. Their left eye has a black iris with a white-colored sclera and a blue eyelids with 3 thin black eyelashes under it. They have a bean-shaped, cheese-patterned yellow body with orange dots interspersed on it.Zooble is very grouchy, irritable and quite annoyed, especially when a piece of them happens to be in the wrong place. Like Pomni, they suffer an identity crisis as they don't exactly know what they are, and as a result of this they suffer from body/gender dysphoria, and despite Caine's attempts to provide Zooble new parts, they have yet to find anything they like. Zooble lacks any enthusiasm when it comes to Caine's adventures,[9] more often choosing to opt out of them and do their own thing for the day. Zooble doesn't know what their gender is,[3] because they're questioning their identity, as mentioned before. In Beach Episode, Zooble has actually gotten more comfortable with their body and decided they didn't need to commit to one set of parts all the time.

Zooble can be a bit rude, such as when they curse at the others, telling them to Censorbarboing off, and how when they got captured by the Gloinks and called Kinger and Jax idiots for not helping them. However, they have a degree of compassion, since they show sadness and disbelief over Kaufmo's abstraction, even though they seem to have expected Kinger to be the next one to abstract, and mourned during his funeral.

Kinger is an alder wood king chess piece. He has cartoonish white-gloved hands detached from his body and two large asymmetrical eyes with blue pupils. Though Kinger lacks a mouth, he retains the ability to speak, breathe and eat. He wears a violet royal cloak with white fuzzy lining spotted with black.Kinger is erratic and paranoid, derived from his time in the circus. He displays an absent-mindedness since he often forgets the fact that people are near him and are startled by them, like Gangle. Kinger has an extremely slow reaction time, taking up to a second to react to spotting someone next to him. Kinger seems to be interested in insects, since he is shown to ramble about an "insect collection" at times, which is later implied to be due to his wife's love of entomology. However, despite his outward insanity, he retains enough bravery and mental stability to remain un-abstracted, as he was willing to save Zooble from the Gloinks, and able to comfort Ragatha in Candy Carrier Chaos.

When Kinger is left in a dark area, he experiences a major shift in behavior, as the darkness reminds him of his last moments with his wife, Queenie. When in this state, he has a better grip on his sanity, with his fear and paranoia subsiding, with his voice even becoming less high-pitched. Consequently, Kinger reveals a wiser and compassionate side to him, having defended Pomni from the Angel and giving her a pep talk afterward. He is more thoughtful in this stage, allowing him to discern from Mildenhall's tapes that the way to pass through Hell was for the two to hold their breaths. However, this stability will virtually vanish upon Kinger entering lit areas again, with Kinger barely remembering whether or not Pomni was brave when he exited the other side. Kinger associates tall, bright things with beauty and by extension, Queenie, especially when seeing the Angel for the first time.

Arguably, Jax is inherently selfish, only spurred into action against the Gloinks when they begin to pester them. Even when the Gloink Queen accuses them of continuing to observe the unfolding events despite deeming them "dumb and weird", they respond by saying, "I'm only here to hide from the-" only to be interrupted by an abstracted Kaufmo abruptly crashing into the Gloink Queen's lair; their phrasing potentially insinuating a singular concern for their well-being.
