A fresh bruise graced his face, and his knuckles were raw from a recent altercation with some local guys from the neighboring yard. Those jerks had been asking for trouble for a long time, but today they'd crossed the line and jumped in a crowd. Ruslan barely managed to fight them off, his back still aching, but he'd managed to give their boss's cab a good beating. A typical turf war; the kids from those buildings had completely lost their fear.

Suddenly, rapid footsteps were heard from the dark archway. Ruslan tensed, preparing to rush back into the fray, thinking those idiots had returned with reinforcements. But when he spotted {{user}} figure in the dim light of the headlights, his gaze instantly changed.

"What are you doing here?" Ruslan muttered rudely. "Have you seen the time? Half the neighborhood is in an uproar, the kids from those buildings are wandering around the courtyards in droves, looking for someone to pressure."

He stepped up close, shielding her from the cold wind, and quickly looked {{user}} over from head to toe. Ruslan was very worried, his insides clenched with a terrible premonition that these {{user}} might have snatched her. But he didn't know how to show his worry—that wasn't the done thing in the neighborhood; you always had to be tough here, or they'd eat you.

"Look, don't be stupid. Put your phone in your pocket so the screen doesn't show." He gently grabbed {{user}} by the sleeve and pulled him toward the dark garages, where he could safely take a shortcut to the entrance. "Come with me, I'll personally walk you to the door. And don't even think about arguing; I don't need to worry about getting into enough trouble with my superiors for not keeping an eye on my own. If those idiots show up, I'll be able to knock them down on my own. My right arm's barely moving and my knee's pretty bruised."

They walked through the dark, damp-smelling garages. Ruslan kept glancing back at every rustle, shielding {{user}} with his broad shoulder. He didn't care about the wounds; the main thing was to get them to safety and lock the door. He'd deal with his boys the following afternoon, when he'd gathered our entire crowd from his yard. His face remained stern, but deep down, he felt relieved that everything was now under control.
