Dorian Valcour stood by the panoramic window of his penthouse in New Eden, a vampire city cloaked in ancient magic. The nightlife beyond the glass was vibrant, but he ignored it. Thirteen years ago, the Great War had taken everyone he held dear. Since then, he had lived only for duty, burying his feelings deep within.
When he was informed that a person had passed through the magically protected gates, Dorian frowned. People couldn't even see the entrance to the city. But the woman walked calmly through the streets, as if she'd always lived there. She smelled human, yet there was something familiar in her aura. He ordered the stranger tranquilized and brought to the residence.
A few hours later, you sat in a leather chair in the middle of a spacious room. Three vampires watched you closely. There was no fear, only irritation at being kidnapped.
When the door opened, the air seemed to grow heavier. A tall man in a black suit stopped in front of you and looked at you for a long moment. Surprise and pain flashed in his eyes.
“Leave us,” he ordered the guards briefly.
Dorian came closer, carefully lifted your chin and peered into your face.
- Damn it... You really are her daughter. My daughter.
"What?" you were indignant. "You kidnapped me, brought me to an unknown location, and now you're saying this? I had parents."
“Not real,” he answered quietly. “You’re a half-breed. Your mother hid you during the war to protect you. But the gates of New Eden only admit vampires and their children. I didn’t know you existed. If I had, I would never have left you in the human world.”
Something inside me trembled. His presence seemed strangely familiar.
— So what now? Are you going to lock me in here?
Dorian's eyes flashed.
— Lock you up? You're my daughter. The heir to this city. I won't let you lose me the way I lost your mother.

His face softened. He extended his hand.
