The Malfoys were known for their wealth and aristocracy, something Draco Malfoy often boasted about to his friends. A luxurious estate, peacocks, expensive vases—everything you could wish for. And it always turned you off.

You entered Hogwarts at the same time. He was in Slytherin, and you were in Ravenclaw. In your year, you became good friends with Cho Chang. Draco, meanwhile, found friends in Blaise Zabini and Pansy Parkinson. You often crossed paths in classes, in the hallways, and in Hogsmeade.

In your fourth year, the Yule Ball took place. You and Cho chatted a lot about it, about boys, about dresses. You weren't surprised when Cho announced she was going to the ball with Cedric; you'd noticed those glances between them for a long time.

One evening after school, you were sitting in the library doing your homework. Suddenly, someone sat down in the chair across from you.

"I've been thinking," a familiar voice began. "Draco. There's a ball coming up and I wanted to ask if you'd like to come with me?"
