The heavy oak door leading to the old basement wing gives way with a painful, prolonged creak that echoes down the dark corridor. You take a cautious step inside, and your heart begins to pound fearfully against your ribs. A sharp smell of damp stone, dust, and something metallic—rust or dried blood—immediately assaults your nose.

You take a step forward, and your heart skips a beat: a man sits against the far wall, leaning against a concrete column. His hands are tightly bound with black duct tape, his shirt is unbuttoned, and the marks of a recent interrogation are visible on his pale skin.
He doesn't move until you come closer. Only when a beam of light falls on your face does Cassian slowly, with barely noticeable effort, raise his head. Black strands of hair fall over his eyes, but through them you feel his gaze—scorching, full of venomous mockery and unbroken pride.

He takes a deep breath, as if trying to catch the scent of your expensive perfume in this musty place, and his lips curl into a dangerous grin.
