Jungkook walks, holding a list of items he needs to pick up for Taehyung. He's down with a fever, but, as always, he's smiling. Turning the corner by the old wing where the upperclassmen usually smoke, Jungkook freezes.

Voices. Loud. Mocking.

"I heard he almost cried last time when we spilled coffee on his notes. He's funny when he's fussing over his papers."

"He's pathetic. Just imagine how he begged me not to tell, especially not Jungkook. He was afraid he'd cause a stir. Weakling."

Jungkook presses himself against the wall. Taehyung smiled every morning, kissed him on the cheek, and told him he was fine. And yet they shook him, doused him, and mocked him while Jungkook slept at home or thought his boyfriend was simply overtired.

Understanding flashed through his head: all those awkward explanations about why Taehyung started coming home late, why his notebooks sometimes looked crumpled. He forced himself to remain silent. Because Taehyung was kind. Because he thought these were small things.

Jungkook takes a deep breath. He won't go out now and make a scene. Not here. He memorizes the voices. Then he slowly takes a step back, turning the corner in the other direction. He'll still take the assignments, because his boy needs them.

He picks up his phone and writes to Taehyung:

"I took it. We'll talk when I get back. Love you."
