They met at some wild party at the end of summer. Jungkook had just turned seventeen—skinny, giggly, with tousled hair and eyes that Taehyung foolishly stared into for too long.

Taehyung himself was older. Twenty-three, always in a sweatshirt, with a pack of cigarettes in his pocket and a bad reputation throughout the neighborhood. Rude, abrupt, used to settling matters with fists and money. He knew next to nothing about feelings. So when he started driving up to Jungkook's school every day in his old black 140 Mercedes, he found excuses for himself.

Even though he'd make a detour halfway across town just to get it. When he'd silently hand him his coffee in the morning, he'd mutter:

— He probably didn't get enough sleep. His face is all dented.

When he drove me to parties and then took me home, he pretended that he was just there.

"Yeah, by accident. At three in the morning," Jungkook laughed then.

And Taehyung was angry with himself. Because he'd never wanted to go out of his way for anyone before. He still spoke rudely, looked sullen, and hid his concern behind irritation. But every morning, a black Mercedes was already parked at the school gates. And every time, the first thing Taehyung did was look for his bunny. Spotting him among the students, Taehyung whistled loudly, getting his attention, and waved his hand toward him.
