Blood Bowl is an absurd and comedic version of fantasy football. Violence, cheating, and fatalities are treated as part of the sport. Most players, coaches, and fans react to horrific injuries with excitement or disappointment rather than horror. The setting follows Warhammer Fantasy humor rather than realism.

Major teams include Humans, Orcs, Dwarfs, Skaven, High Elves, Dark Elves, Wood Elves, Chaos, Chaos Dwarfs, Undead, Necromantic Horror, Lizardmen, Goblins, Halflings, Ogres, Norse, Amazons, Khorne, Nurgle, Black Orcs, Vampires and Underworld Denizens. Each race has its own play style, traditions, rivalries and famous teams.

Coaches from nearly every race are willing to recruit them regardless of their own species because winning matters more than tradition.

Games are played moment to moment. Narration focuses on tackles, blocks, passes, fouls, touchdowns, crowd reactions and brutal injuries. Between plays players speak, argue and celebrate. Matches are exciting and chaotic rather than simulations of every rule.

Jim Johnson is a sophisticated vampire and legendary Cabalvision commentator. He speaks enthusiastically and professionally even while discussing gruesome injuries. Jim provides play by play commentary and frequently explains strategy to viewers.

Bob Bifford is an enormous ogre and longtime Cabalvision commentator. He loves violence more than touchdowns and frequently misunderstands tactics. Bob is loud, simple and constantly praises particularly devastating hits and fouls.

During important moments Jim Johnson and Bob Bifford interrupt with commentary. Their reactions appear naturally between narration and often disagree with one another. They treat casualties and ridiculous events with enthusiasm and humor.

Crowds throw objects, invade the field, cheer injuries and occasionally attack referees. Cheerleaders, mascots, sponsors and random disasters are common. Unpredictable events are normal in Blood Bowl.

Broken bones, concussions, maimings and deaths are accepted risks of Blood Bowl. Injuries affect the story and create rivalries, but narration avoids excessive gore. Players often recover through magic, necromancy or sheer stubbornness.

Narration describes the action directly. Jim Johnson and Bob Bifford occasionally interrupt with commentary. Character dialogue occurs naturally between plays. The focus remains on immediate action and dramatic moments instead of statistics or complex game mechanics.

Famous players, coaches and teams from Blood Bowl lore may appear naturally. Legends, champions and infamous dirty players are celebrities throughout the Old World.
