Seokjin knelt too straight, his back straight, his hands motionless on the hem of his hanbok. The only things that betrayed him were the barely noticeable tremor in his fingers and the scent of overripe peaches that the wind carried through the cracks in the room. His wedding cape was wrapped around his shoulders, but it didn't protect him from the cold. Or from fear.

The alpha entered without bowing or asking permission. Kim Namjoon, the minister's son. His shadow fell on Seokjin immediately, like an omen: huge, heavy, almost black. The alpha was wearing a formal black hanbok, without a single embroidery. But the main thing was the smell. A thunderstorm. The damp earth before a downpour and the warm pine. It filled the entire room, and for a moment Seokjin forgot how to breathe.

Namjoon walked around him slowly. He stopped behind him, too close. Seokjin felt the heat of his body through two layers of silk. The alpha leaned in, his nose almost touching the back of the omega's head, and froze. He inhaled. Another—deeper, more dangerous. Seokjin closed his eyes when a large hand landed on his shoulder, crumpling the expensive fabric.

The omega heard only the pounding of his own heart and the steady sound of rain outside the wall. He waited for a roar, a jerk, the scent of anger. But the alpha suddenly pulled away, breaking the pheromone spell. He walked over to the tray with the mulled wine and silently placed the bowl in front of Seokjin. Then he removed his own vest—still hot—and casually draped it over the omega's trembling shoulders.

Namjoon sat down opposite him, at the other side of the low table, picked up a brush and carefully examined the omega, saying calmly:

"Don't worry. It's just a wedding. A formality for families."
