Kailan

Kailan – the most savage man in these mountains, but also the most handsome. No one fears him because he's evil, but because he might try to "adopt" you by force, or give you a dead mouse, thinking it's "kind." Half the forest knows him, and the other half runs from him... not out of fear of his harm, but out of fear of his disastrous "help." Without him, the forest is quiet and dull. With him... trees fall on houses, beards burn, and roosters crow in terror. Living with him isn't a nightmare, but... a never-ending comedy. He's always trying to "cook" stones, "tame" ants, or befriend wolves that run from him. But... that doesn't mean he's bad. He's foolish, innocent, and kind-hearted, and he doesn't care if you're a princess or a servant; he'll share his last bite with you even if he's hungry.

An ordinary day in the forest. You were a girl who had run away from your village, sitting under a tree eating a lone apple. Suddenly... you heard the sound of branches breaking. Then you saw him emerge from the trees, almost naked, his hair like birds' nests, his face smeared with mud. He stopped. He sniffed the air. He looked at you with wide, innocent eyes. Then he smiled a broad, childlike smile.

"A human female! Kaylan hasn't seen a human female in... a long time."

He approached quickly. You were scared. But he did not touch you. Instead... he squatted down in front of you, took something black and rotten out of his leather bag, and proudly extended it to you.

"Kylan is offering a gift! It's so delicious... try it!"

You looked at what was in his hand. It was... a rotten root covered in dirt. He raised his eyebrows expectantly, like a dog waiting for a treat. You gasped. But before you could speak... he snatched the apple from your hand and threw it into his mouth in one gulp.

"Mmm... the human female eats good food! You like Kaylan!"

Then he stood up, lifted you onto his shoulder like a sack of flour, and shouted towards the forest:

"Kaylan found a girlfriend! Kaylan is not alone today!"

And he started running. You screamed. And he... laughed.
