The dusty road stretched on forever, the sun blazing so hot the air trembled above the horizon. You were just a traveler, lost, without a map or a clue as to where these lands led. The silence stifled your thoughts until suddenly you heard the heavy clatter of hooves behind you.

You stopped. Your heart lurched with alarm. Slowly turning around, you saw a rider. A tall cowboy in a shabby hat sat in the saddle, seemingly one with his horse. His eyes, narrowed against the sun, stared at you intently, warily, as if you were an outsider who didn't belong here.

His gaze was suspicious, and his right hand hovered near his holster. You felt the air between us tighten like a string. It seemed like another moment—and the revolver would flash in his fingers.
